Lots of caramel, orange marmalade, hint of floral hops in the nose...grapefruit sourness dominates the initial mouthfeel, and some of it carries through along with caramel and perhaps a touch of oak. Fairly sour/bitter finish, quite dry. Like most Summits, decent but unmemorable. jazz88 (2239), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 25, 2004 Bottle. A dark reddish brown color with a laced off-white head. A hopped, mildly fruity aroma. A full dry bitterness with a good hop profile. Missing a deeper malt base but otherwise enjoyable. invalid (302), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 22, 2004 Pours an amber color. Not much nose on it, small white head. Fairly hoppy, but I think that the overall malt profile doesn’t offer enough chance for the hops to shine. brewblackhole (1386), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 9, 2004 Somewhat of a dark pour for an IPA, aroma was carmel and malt, not much hop at all, taste was like the aroma carmel and malt, distinct but not full, there was also a bit of a metallic aftertaste, a little bit of hop bitterness came in the aftertaste as well, and that how it stayed thin sweet lingering metallic bitterness. verymerrymonk (257), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 30, 2004 Brown body with a nearly non-existent head. Very little in aroma aside for some citrus. The flavor is hops, and not in exceptional quantity or quality. Oh well. Pailhead (2610), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 10, 2004 Bottle: Aroma is a little on the weak side. More malty than hoppy. Can’t really say it has your expected IPA aroma. Pours a transparent amber with a white head that just can never seem to get going. Rather weak initial taste, somewhat matly and caramel followed by what I would call a below average hoppy finish for an IPA and a little orange flavor as well. Thru 151 beers, this is without a doubt the worst IPA I’ve had. It's not a horrible beer, but it is a bad IPA. Don't quite understand their statement of "some might even say agressive - hop flavor." If that was what they intended to do, they didn't come close. Cornfield (4980), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 5, 2004 A good hoppy drink. Pours a somewhat hazy copper/amber color with a minimum head. Serious hop aroma, both citric and floral. There’s sweet malt in the flavor, but the decent hopping is the story. Smooth but dry, this has a solid bitter hop finish. Drew (2410), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 4, 2004 I enjoyed this ipa from the beginning and all the way thru the 6pack. Aroma was surprisingly strong - flroal, citrus, orange groves, sweet malts, etc. body was a brilliant copper with thin head and sticky lacing. Orange rind juicy hops mixed with sugar sweet malt flavors. Soft fizz of carbonation up front, then medium bodied smoothness and ending with a long bitter, tongue drying citrus/pine hop finish. Enjoyable indeed.
