Would have liked a bit bigger nose, although I served this beer straight from the fridge which may be concealing a bit of the aroma. Color is a nice deep copper color. Medium carbonation with a pillowy off white head. Hops and malt are well balaced. Perhaps I’m expecting more hops in this IPA. Nice earthy hop flavor, nice malty backbone. Not as much hop bitterness as I’d prefer. Gets better as beer warms tho. Overall not a bad beer. I’ve had this on draft and it is much better in that form. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

Apple peel, malt, and some hops bitterness. Tastes less bitter than their extra pale ale, nice and dry. Slight tanginess. Not great. NobleSquirrel (1111), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Cloudy, I actually like the way this looks, the head resembles shaving foam. Doesn’t smell like an IPA, in fact smells strikingly sweet, even fruity, perhaps reflecting the dark color (the high malt content). Reasonable hop content, but it just doesn’t feel like an IPA to me. Very malty and very very sweet. I have gone back in time and decided that this is quite possibly one of my least favorite beers ever. The hops taste off and it's too sweet... jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 8, 2004 Pours dark brown with a very thin, but lasting head; its too dark for an IPA, but it does have that customary haziness. Quite bubbly. Non-existent aroma, from what I can interpret, it does have a slightly hoppy aroma, but extremely weak malts overpower the hops. Surprisingly pleasant mouthfeel, taste was slightly bitter, but not enough. Kind of chewy... Overall, it’s not a horrible attempt at an IPA, but a mediocre at best. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 29, 2004 Bitters and hops. Grainy texture. Pale appearance and taste. Grass and controlled carbonation. Malty start and bitter aftertaste. A solid member of the IPA family. More like a European and not the newer American IPAs jerc (3923), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Flavour is nicely bitter with hops and some malt in the back ground. A very nice beer, thanks NorthYorkSammy. gwfrankpsu (231), McKinleyville, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 12, 2004 Amber in color with a medium body. Slightly malty, lightly toasted and a nice hop bite. Found the flavors to be earthy, piney and lime at the finish. Dry with lively carbonation and a slight astringent finish. All in all a very nice IPA.
