Commercial Description:
Early German monks created “bock” beer as a hearty beverage that would help sustain them during their Lenten fasts. The first bock beers were dark, but soon came “blonder” styles such as maibock. Maibocks have a rich, malty, full flavor. And, since our first brewhouse was from Heimertingen in Bavaria, we’ve honored that heritage by giving the name to our first lager beer.“Bock,” by the way, is German for “male goat.” It doesn’t make sense to us either.

Aroma of corn (DMS), a touch of nutty caramel and an almost skunked twist...though I don’t think it is really skunked. Bright orange in color with an inch tall, white head. Flavor is bready with some corn and a lightly spicy, fruity finish. Medium body, slightly creamy and nice carbonation. Can’t really tell this is 7%...it hides the alcohol well.

Creamy white head that leaves a smooth sheet of lace above a pale copper body. Corny, nutty aroma with a splash of honey and metallics. Malty sweet flavor with cereal grains and a spicy-lemon twang to finish. Alcohol doesn’t appear ’til late, but is welcome when it appears. Decent enough.

Pours a clear faint copper, white head. Flavor is sweet malt, bready and toasty. Finsishes dry with a nice hop bitternes. This is a hint of skunkiness. A nice brew.

Pours an amber color with a white head. Nice taste from start to finish. A bit of a toasty taste to it.

We’ve got a winner here. From a bottle, this pours a clear orangish amber with a nice white head. Kind of a spicy aroma with--what’s this?--some hops in the background. Initial taste is malty-sweet, kind of a caramel corn flavor. Nice carbonation. Not a particularly heavy maibock but there is some heft to it. Surprising hop presence lends a little bitterness to the finish--makes for a great balance. Very good!

On tap at Old Chicago. Aroma is of herbs/grass. Average head size with nice tight bubbles giving it a creamy appearance. Excellent lacing. Moderately sweet flavor followed by more of a bitter hop aftertaste. Was my favorite in the Summit line until I had the Great Northern Porter. Very good, but short of a top notch brew.
