Commercial Description:
Early German monks created “bock” beer as a hearty beverage that would help sustain them during their Lenten fasts. The first bock beers were dark, but soon came “blonder” styles such as maibock. Maibocks have a rich, malty, full flavor. And, since our first brewhouse was from Heimertingen in Bavaria, we’ve honored that heritage by giving the name to our first lager beer.“Bock,” by the way, is German for “male goat.” It doesn’t make sense to us either.

Yellowish/Golden Coloring with Small White Head. Dry Hop Aroma. A Pretty Balanced Mix of Malt and Hops...Hops Lightly Dominated for a Slightly Dry Finish...Possibly a Little Caramel and a Little Grainy. Solid Session Brew.

On tap at Mpls/St. P airport-I don’t know if this is super fresh or a better batch, but I love this beer. Nice malt backbone, great aroma and just enough alchohol to give it that extra kick. Bartender told me that it had been put on tap the day before, so I guess that helps.

Light golden color, medium white head that settles to a thin ring around the edges, very little lacing. You wouldn’t expect much by looking at this. Aroma is sweet malts and hint of hops. Taste is sweet, slightly grainy palate, hops are faint - dust and dirt floor. Then the sugar reappears - I feel a cavity coming on. I get no thrill from this one.

Draft. Pretty orange (hint of read) with tight white head. No aroma. Thin overcarbonated malty body. Bitter finish. Inoffensive but unimpressive.

Pale amber, greenish shine, small amberish head. Chaff, grapey American hops, very subdued, some ambrée malts. Sweetish, fruity, again especially grapes, sour grapes. Hoppy bitterness gradually builds, always leaving some restsugars in the oral cavity, tasting like cane sugar. Medium bodied, medium slickness, even some refreshing properties. Nice beer, in se. It’s about as German as Weisswurst with Heinz ketchup and Freedom fries.

Pours a brilliantly clear, orange-copper color, that is actually quite visually appealing. It is topped by a frothy, light tan head. The aroma is spicy and herbal, with malt notes of biscuits, though the aroma is fairly subtle. The beer is lightly sweet up front, with a nice finish that is haunted by notes of spicy hops and a hint of alcohol. There is almost a note of orange here, though this may just be suggested by the pretty orange color. This beer is actually quite light on the palate, and not overwhelming in the taste and flavors either. It is quite tasty, but it is missing a certain solid maltiness that a Bock should have.
