Commercial Description:
Early German monks created “bock” beer as a hearty beverage that would help sustain them during their Lenten fasts. The first bock beers were dark, but soon came “blonder” styles such as maibock. Maibocks have a rich, malty, full flavor. And, since our first brewhouse was from Heimertingen in Bavaria, we’ve honored that heritage by giving the name to our first lager beer.“Bock,” by the way, is German for “male goat.” It doesn’t make sense to us either.

Pours a brilliantly clear, orange-copper color, that is actually quite visually appealing. It is topped by a frothy, light tan head. The aroma is spicy and herbal, with malt notes of biscuits, though the aroma is fairly subtle. The beer is lightly sweet up front, with a nice finish that is haunted by notes of spicy hops and a hint of alcohol. There is almost a note of orange here, though this may just be suggested by the pretty orange color. This beer is actually quite light on the palate, and not overwhelming in the taste and flavors either. It is quite tasty, but it is missing a certain solid maltiness that a Bock should have.

Pours a golden brown color with a fizzy white head. Mild sweet malty aroma. The taste is likewise a sweet malt with a hint of hops bitterness, mainly in the aftertaste. Not very impressive.

Pours a clear pale copper with a thick fizzy white head. Aroma is mildly malty, with a touch of tartness and German hops. Body has some candy like sweetness and stinging carbonation to it. This could use a little more malt and some balance to smooth it out.

A malty, pale beer with mild hop flavors. A little on the bitter-sweet side. I think this is a great beer to enjoy, but frankly, I wouldn’t recommend more than two in a sitting.

Small fizzy head, clear gold body. Weird malty rust aroma. Fairly decent flavor... pretty sweet. A bit like sugar cookies with a touch of fruity hops. Not a bad beer.... just missing a decent aroma.

12 oz bottle. Lots of bubbles...medium amber, little head. Some sweet malt, honey, damn this is pretty bland, no hops to speak of, just a general dull sweetness. Nope, not for me.

I eagerly await the arrival of this seasonal every year. As good as any German Maibock. A far better effort than Summit’s other lager. Robust malty aroma and flavor, topped by a fine snowwhite head.

pours an orangish golden color with a medium white head, little carbonation present. very sweet malty aroma and hints of carmel. smooth at the start with heav malty flavors as well as carmel, very nice hop balance that really makes this a bit more complex than expected.
