Commercial Description:
Early German monks created “bock” beer as a hearty beverage that would help sustain them during their Lenten fasts. The first bock beers were dark, but soon came “blonder” styles such as maibock. Maibocks have a rich, malty, full flavor. And, since our first brewhouse was from Heimertingen in Bavaria, we’ve honored that heritage by giving the name to our first lager beer.“Bock,” by the way, is German for “male goat.” It doesn’t make sense to us either.

Draft at Groveland Tap in Saint Paul. Pours a golden amber with a good layering of white head. Aromas of hop and citrus (lemon). Flavor is hops and notes of pine. Light body with average carbonation. Better draft than from the bottle in my opinion.

12oz. brown bottle served in a pilsner glass. Poured a brilliant, clear gold. Very effervescent with two fingers of fine bubbled white head. Good looking beer, unfortunately it went downhill from here. This beer seems to have some fermentation issues. There is some sulfur in the nose. It dissipates to allow a little caramel malt. Thin bodied. There is some corny, dms type of flavor there. Some maltiness, but not enough for the style. A little hop bitterness in the middle. I wondered if I had a bad bottle, but other reviews seem to reinforce my tasting.

Appearance: Pours a clear, golden body with a near non-existent white head. Smell: Mild, malty aroma with a weak hint of citrus. Taste: Slightly bready pale malt taste. Medium sweetness. Tart, stale fruitiness. Hint of citrus. Dash of booze on the bittersweet finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Okay, but comes across as a bit bland. It’s just not what I’m looking for in a maibock.

From a quarter-barrel keg (happy birthday, Elizavyeta!). Draws a clear coppery amber with a billowy white head. Aroma is light, with earthy and sweet notes of corn, malt, hops, and a bit of spice. Taste is light and creamy, with a very smooth and malty initial flavor opening up into a finish of spices, grass, honey, and a bit of hops. A classy blonde (like Elizavyeta!).
