Commercial Description:
This unique seasonal beer offers the warmth of an old English pub to help ward off the chill of a winter’s night. It has its origins in British neighborhood pubs where villagers would gather to shake off the damp cold of the bitter English winter. They’d share a pint or two of winter warmer ale by the fire, catch up on local gossip, and stay inside, where it was warm. We’ve brewed our version in the tradition of those winter ales, with a robust, full-bodied flavor and a tangy hint of spices.

From 12 oz bottle, pours a clear dark brown brew with a medium sized light brown head. Fair lacing, Aroma of barley malt, smokey maple, vanilla and spicy hops. Taste sweet smoothness with a hint of nutty fruit and bread. Clean finish with a slight chocolate aftertaste.

Bottle. Deep brown with a medium head. Aroma is dark fruit, toasted bread and a slight hint of grassy hops. Taste of toffee, black cherries, brown sugar and dark fruits. Medium body. Slightly sticky texture. I like this a lot.

Poured a clear deep chestnut color with a thin off-white head. Strong caramel malt aroma with some frutiness. Light sugary notes and some chocolate. Full malty flavor with notes of caramel and cola. Hint of hops and a fruity finish. Medium bodied.

2006 bottle. Poured a clear, darker reddish-brown with a beige head that quickly recedes to a ring. Aroma starts off nice with some chocolatey notes... devolving to less-desirable notes of baby poo and garbage... really odd transition... some sharper spices are buried, appearing intermittently. Flavor was rather ugly with veggie mash-infused semi-sweet chocolate, dry yet sticky sharp spices, and some floral hoppage. Tacky on the palate, strategically trapping unpleasant flavors where my best taste buds lie.. spicy warmer finish. This beer was just a mess.

Pours a deep amber color. Finger worth of head and lacing. Flavor is of chocolate and nuts. Very nice, in my opinion its better than Summit’s extra pale ale

Was a little strange for me at first, but I eventually warmed up to it. Flavor of chocolate, malt, floral, spice, a slight sweetness, and some hop bitterness. REally interesting flavor, and would make an excellent winter beverage.

Draft. This beer had a unique flavor and I could not identify the style for awhile. Eventually I decided it was malty mixed with bitter chocolate flavors. Interesting beer.

Bottle (12oz). 20th anniversary edition 2006. Very deep clear ruby, smallish tan fizzy/creamy head. Like a spicy porter - moderate coffee/chocolate roast malt, spice, plenty of cereal grain, some floral hops. The taste follows, very mild, some raisin notes with the cereal grain, muted roast malt, slight cocoa bitterness in the quick finish. Average, slightly chewy body, dry and a touch astringent, weak carbonation, quick finish but a slightly dry cocoa powder aftertaste. Quite good - more a full-bodied brown ale than an English strong (there’s really no alcohol character here at all) - but a very nice winter beer indeed.
