Commercial Description:
This unique seasonal beer offers the warmth of an old English pub to help ward off the chill of a winter’s night. It has its origins in British neighborhood pubs where villagers would gather to shake off the damp cold of the bitter English winter. They’d share a pint or two of winter warmer ale by the fire, catch up on local gossip, and stay inside, where it was warm. We’ve brewed our version in the tradition of those winter ales, with a robust, full-bodied flavor and a tangy hint of spices.

Pours very dark with a fluffy light head that subsides quickly. Aroma is lightly hoppy. A bitter aftertaste is the best part of a less then average flavor.

A gift from those who know winter to those of us that have to bear the cold. Thank you, Summit. I actually look forward to winter, in part because of this fantastic beer. Malty, slightly sweet malt aroma, wonderfully robust, yet crisp. The sweetness is nicely balanced by a slight bitterness. Better on tap, but still great at home.

Deep dark brown pour. Nice off-white head, quickly diminished. Average lacing. Only light wafts of malt, practically no aroma. May be due to temperature (cold) of brew. Ultra caramel and burnt sugar. Like a luscious dulce de leche. Wonderful burnt malt. Very sweet, rich, and smooth. Flavor seemed a little off and eggy to me, like the tap was bad.

Dark Brown, thin head. Flavor is sweet, raisins and plum, with a hint of roasts. Hops are slightly spicy. There are a few things going on in the beer, but they don’t seem to be working real well together. It was OK.

12 oz bottle. Very dark root beer complection to this still, heavy-looking liquid with a thin, lasting head; sweet, Christmas-spicy nose of allspice, anise and nutmeg...fairly dry body, tarry and full of dark licorice and hints of chocolate...bitter, somewhat acidic dry finish.

12oz bottle. BBD Mar 04. Well, if I’d have noticed the neck imprinted "enjoy by" date I wouldn’t have bought it, but as it was, this was one of the more interesting bottles available in Brookings, SD where I marooned for 5 days working. Mahogony with quickly dying head. Not much aroma, maybe some slight roasty smell. Decent body, slightly sweet with balancing dark malts and hops. Pretty mild overall in flavor, but a good body and solid malt make it enjoyable. But why does it seem like so many of the "winter" beers taste like this?? Redhook, Odell’s, Breckenridge, Summit, they are all about the same to me.

Dark reddish brown body was clear and porter-ish , and the head very small and fleeting. The smell was that of powdered cocoa, roasted and burnt grains, and faint grassy hops. The taste was as anticipated, with chocolate, weak coffee, dark skinned fruits, brown sugar, and roasted cracked grains. Mouthfeel was medium-thin, and the aftertaste was slightly sticky. A decent porter released for the season where it is appropriate.
