ElGaucho (1721), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Mar 1, 2008 Draft at Major’s, Golden Valley, CA. Hey, with only 9 ratings I get to make it or break it! This brew was a pleasant surprise and I see getting a solid dose of anti-macro bias by my fellow Ratebeerians. Not much aroma but wonderful lacing and pretty good flavor. Doughy with a subtle hop finish. Reminds me a bit of both Rogue Dead Guy and Goose Island Honkers. Session Ale qualities. I still prefer Sam Adams to it and ordered a couple of those after having this one, but you could definitely do worse.
BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Aug 9, 2008 This wasn’t half bad, as far as AB’s "craft" beers go. This was at least drinkable for more than one bottle. Has some sweet caramel maltiness, which is a little on the thin side of course, balanced out by some cascade citrus bitterness. Decent enough. Headbanger (958), Aurora, Illinois, USA Aug 8, 2008 12oz bottle-A slightly hazy amber body with a nice off white covering. Aroma of wheat, orange, and citrus. Taste of the same with a little orange and hops thrown in. This light bodied brew is not bad but I was expecting worse. MrBeerFanatic (197), jamestown, New York, USA Aug 3, 2008 Pours medium bodied lightly hazy amber with a frothy white head with an orange tint. Sweet aroma of wheat, hops, and citrus with. The flavor surprised me as I expected it to taste much like the aroma but all I notice is a slight citrus and malt taste with a slight note of hops. But the overall flavor just isn’t to good. Bitter end. I really don’t mind wheat beers but this one isn’t all to great but better than a lot of beers coming from Anheuser Busch. phishpond417 (1360), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 3, 2008 A modest attempt at an american wheat, and i think they passed... somewhat. Pours a clear golden, orangeish colour with a fairly large white head. Lacing is attractive, and coats the glass well. Aroma is of old malts, and pear. Taste is a little off dry with a soft bitter hop finish. rkuhnel (1064), Eureka, California, USA Jul 29, 2008 From a 12 oz bottle. I did not realize this was from AB until I went to post this rating. Guess I should pay more attention to the bottle. Saw a six pack of this at BevMo, didn’t recognize it, and so thought I would try it. Poured a hazy light amber with small white head and light lacing. Nose of wheat malt and citrus hops. . Light mouthfeel. Flavor is very typical of a wheat beer, with the citrus hops and a little caramel sweetness.
Finish is bland. All in all quite drinkable and it gives me hope that AB might be moving toward putting ut something better than Bud.
