Pours a five-finger light tan head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving a good lace. Black color. Roasted coffee nose. Light carbonation and heavy bodied. Flavor is chocolate and roasted coffee that finishes as bitter coffee. $1.40 for a 12oz bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with red hues and an average size mostly-lasting tan head. Mild aroma of lightly roasted caramel malt, some chocolate and light hops -- too mild for my liking. Flavour’s a bit watery and follows the aroma: Lightly roasted malt with some grassy hops coming through, some chocolate and a light bitter finish. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. It’s good but it’s a little simple and a touch bland.

Deep brown coloured body with a small tan head and large ruby tints throughout. Aroma of nuts, caramel, cherries, malt, chocolate and grapes run strong. Medium-bodied; Good tastes of nuts (once again), raisins, roasted malt, figs, chocolate and even licorice detected in the taste. Aftertaste shows strong flavours of malt and lingering bitterness throughout. Overall, this beer is a good porter to try, complex, but still lacking a bit. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 07-March-2007.

Cold 12oz bottle: Pours a dark brown color with ruby highlights and a small film of tan bubbles, mostly concentrated around edges. Rich roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits, caramel and earthy hops. Medium to full bodied and smooth with medium carbonation. Rich malty and lightly sweet ending.

Deep garnet pour with medium tan head. Malty, roasted malt aroma. Faint hints of chocolate. Roasty, toasty malt, sweetness, milky flavors as well. Smooth, well made porter.
