Feb 16, 2009 Courtesy Beerlando. Amber color, thin soapy white head. Strong grassy hop aroma, very earthy, defined malt aroma also. Strong hop taste, murky bitterness, very lasting aftertaste. Brash and earthy.

Feb 2, 2009 Many thanks to Skyview for a growler of this. Copper red pour. Thin head. Grapefruit, tangerine, mango, and some floral hops. Balanced and not overly bitter. Nice smooth palate for the style. Surly knows what they’re doing when it comes to hop forward brews. Hopefully this gets brewed again.

Jan 31, 2009 Sampled from Growler. I never thought I would get a crack at this one! Poured a medium and cloudy amber color wtih a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of citrus (oranges and grapefruits), pine, floral, tangerines, and ’sticky’. Tastes of the same citrus, pine, caramel, and the same stickiness. Nice and hoppy with a malt balance in the taste. Alcohol content hidden.

Jan 30, 2009 Growler, brought to the Stouts tasting. And I mighty fine IPA it was. Orange/copper with white head. Sweet and awesome hops come out of the glass to start you salivating while you smell the beer. Tasted great, nice and hoppy with an awesome sweetness to really nicely balance this beer. Up there as on of the best IIPA’s I’ve had.
As the story goes this won’t be available in Growlers any longer due to Minnesota law changing, sad if it’s true and made us toast to one of the last Surly 16 Grit growlers to be consumed.

Jan 22, 2009 Hand bottle. Nose of pure hoppiness, fruity, citric and piney with touches of quality grass and a bit of countering toasty malt sweetness. Hazy medium amber color, head is slight (which is to be expected). Flavor profile is massively hoppy, but not overwhelmingly bitter, somehow, spicy and citric, finishing with touches of honeyish malt and pine. Just a touch of alcohol detected. Smooth and oily on the palate with a medium-full body. Quite nice! Thanks to beastiefan2k for the sample.

Jan 20, 2009 Growler courtesy of MatSciGuy - THANKS! Pours copper clear with minimal head. Aroma is all floral hops, with notes of pine, grass, caramel and grapefruit. Flavor is sweet with some bitterness to balance out the flavor. Good stuff!

Jan 20, 2009 Growler shared by Taverner, pours deep amber with a finger thick cream colored head that leaves some nice lacing. Floral and grassy nose with decent caramel sweetness. Flavor is grassy and pine with caramel and a dry, spicy finish.

Jan 19, 2009 Updated: Jan 21, 2009A growler of this showed up to our recent stout tasting, and what a nice break from all the stouts. Glowing orange pour, good clarity, with a thin white head. Thick resiny personality, sweet candy-like citrus hop flavor, fruity and sticky. Smooth and over-the-top on hop flavor, but actually nicely balanced on the bitterness. Fricken awesome brew.
