Brownish amber bodied with a smallish head, this maintained a hoppy aroma despite the barrel aging, presenting the nose with pine and sharp tropical fruit. The flavor didn’t seem too effected by the oak, just a light woodiness added to the caramel and strong hop bitterness. Pretty decent.

Fobab 07. This was a dissapointment. Oak aged IIPAs always suck I think. Nose of oaked citrussy flowery pineyness. Flavor simialar but the oak just completely detracts from what you want in an IPA. A bleak opening to an eventual bleak afternoon in what turned out to be the worst FOBAB to date.

On tap at FoBAB ’07. Red with small off-white head. Hoppy citrus and pine aroma. Hopped up bitterness, caramel, oak and grain flavor. Creamy medium to full body. Furius with a little oaky.

On tap at FoBAB 07. Pours a clear amber brown with a white head. Lemon, pine, grapefruit, caramel, and citrus in the nose. Citrusy pine flavors with a nice caramel back bone and an all encompassing oak and bitterness. This holds up well to the oak. Tasty.

On tap at FoBAB 5. Poured clear medium amber with just a little white head. The aroma picked up sweet toasted oak and caramel above all else with very complimentary grapefruit and pine hop presence surrounding.. soft with very subtle hints of tobacco.. smelled great! In the flavor department, toasty pine and caramel hit first with more caramel and deeper grapefruit through the middle.. prickly pine and warmer alcohol presence on the back-side.. moderate bitterness from the pine and grapefruit worked out well. Warm and grainy for the most part on the palate with some booziness at the finish.. OK feel, very good beer.

FoBAB 2007, Chicago. IPA foam makes up half the glass, and that foam itself is really hoppy. Large pine and pineapple smell, taste adds the big punch grapefruit and cat. Strong malts over as milder oak note. A whole lotta beer in an eensy-weensy glass.
