SoLan (1411), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 13, 2009 RBSG 07. On tap at Surly. Dark brown/amber, ruby hues. Small tan head. Drinks like a bit fuller english brown without a twang. Toasty, biscuity, fresh oats. Creamy on the palate with a little carbonation bite on the finish. Medium body. Solid brown ale. From notes. MrPickles (110), Wisconsin, USA Nov 8, 2009 16oz Can. Dark brownish color with big foamy tan head. Aroma has some hops, nuts and touch of caramel and chocolate. Taste is roasted malt, a touch a biter chocolate, and more nuts. Very balanced and even better than the Coffee Bender. fata2683 (858), Panama City, Florida, USA Nov 7, 2009 can, pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is brown sugar, toffee, and carmel malt. Delicious bitter sweet malt with notes of chocolate and coffee. Finishes slightly spicey with notes of clove and pepper. Really nice sessionable brown ale. markas101 (548), Fargo, North Dakota, USA Nov 4, 2009 50 cl can, Fargo, ND, USA. Burnt almond and roasted coffee aroma with a spicy . Smooth, creamy, bitter chocolate flavor with a spicy, almost basil-like finish. bsp77 (202), Minnesota, USA Nov 2, 2009 Poured from can into Nonic Imperial Pint.
Very dark ruby-brown with an inch thick tan head that very slowly recedes, leaving fine lacing down the glass.
Aroma of sweet caramel, citrus hops, some roasted malts.
Slightly sweet caramel, roasted malts, oats, slight coffee and chocolate, and a very nice citrus hop counterbalance. Finishes on a moderate bitter note.
Low carbonation, rich medium body, dry body. Very smooth for such a low abv beer.
At 5.1% abv, this is the ideal year round session beer in Minnesota. It is also the best Brown Ale (whether English, American, India or hybrid) that I have had.
