dkachur (2313), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jan 6, 2009 16 ounce can split by cdumler with Alraomon and myself. Thanks! Pours a clear reddish brown color with a medium head. Average head retention and lacing. Aroma is chocolate, hops and a slight nuttiness. Taste is caramel, chocolate and mild bitter hops in the finish. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied. DrHomolka (722), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 2, 2009 Can from Tweety. Pours a pretty brown color with a huge fluffy tan head with great retention and lacing. Nice, clean, pleasant aroma shows fruits and chocolate. Fruits of the plum, raisin and related variety. The chocolate is a nice and pleasant, subtle, cocoa-like. Definitely one of the better brown ales I’ve smelled, and I’m a fan of the style unlike most. Flavor is really nice coco-chocolate, insanely smooth and creamy mouthfeel, absolutely ideal in my humble opinion. Ridiculously drinkable. I am a sucker for beers like this, this is straight up my alley. I am overrating this probably but this beer is just about perfect to me. The best brown ale I’ve ever had. mixinnixon2000 (227), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 2, 2009 excellent brown ale. had this one on tap at bottom lounge in Chicago. Has a very full flavor almost like a stout DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Dec 22, 2008 16 oz. can, courtesy my brother. Nice ruby brown pour with a medium light beige head. Dark caramel aroma, complemented by piney and spicy hops. Smooth mouthfeel,. medium body and carbonation. Dark roasty flavors dominate, but a healthy dose of hop bitterness provides balance. A very good brown ale, distinctive, with bolder flavors than the usual example. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Dec 11, 2008 can. Pretty hoppy upfront, piney bitterness, followed by rich and smooth caramel malts. Very thick mouthfeel. There are notes of coffee and hints of roasted malts, but its pretty bitter overall. Very good beer. drfabulous (1211), Columbia, Missouri, USA Dec 3, 2008 Hoppy. Malty. Dark. A brown ale that mixes up genres. Bit of Double IPA. Bit of stout tastes like chocolate and vanilla. One of the best American brown ales I have had. bp (451), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 29, 2008 Can: pours a very dark brown with a tan head, chocolate, malty aroma, taste of chocolate, malt, vanilla, coffee, medium mouthfeel. This is a really nice brown. Probably one of the better ones I’ve had. noncaloric (601), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Nov 28, 2008 Updated: Mar 9, 2009Malt-driven aroma. Pours dark, dark brown ... this is a brown ale with aspirations of being a porter ... lots of tan head leaves a good lacing. Flavor is very well balanced bittersweet. On the malt side, molasses, nuts, and just a little bit of the roast; the hops are floral and spicy. Smooth on the palate, but thin bodied for something this flavorful.
