Commercial Description:
Get Surly! Here’s what happens when substance meets smooth. This oatmeal brown ale defies traditional categories. Bender begins crisp and lightly hoppy, complemented by the velvety sleekness oats deliver. Belgian and British malts usher in cascades of cocoa, coffee, caramel, and hints of vanilla and cream. An easy-drinking ale with many layers of satisfaction.

Can. Reddish brown colour with a little head. Aroma of caramel and roastedness. Flavour of roastedness, malt and with a hoppy finish, ends up with a dry and bitter ending.

Can: Thanks ygtbsm94! Pours a deep brown with an amber hue and a dense khaki head. Definitely cocoa notes in the aroma- Belgian malt character of toffee, very light saaz hops, hearty oat notes, sweet nutty suggestions, mild maple- quite complex in the nose. Fluffy body. The flavor has some light raisin upfront and some Belgian malt notes of brown suagr- the oats are hard to detect. There’s some mild toffee as well, coconut notes are there- then comes drier flavors of unsweetened cocoa, nutty British malts and a subtle noble hop bitterness in the finish. A very nice Brown Ale with well integrated flavors and substantial body as well as sessionability.

Can from SoLan, my man. A clean, roasty coffee smell, much like a porter, but less roasty. Lightly floral. Goes down as well as any beer, with a smooth malty goodness to it. A very very nice brown.

Can: Brownish in color, heavy burnt brown sugar hues, large frothy beige head, attractive lacing.   Soft roasted malt nose, a bit of cocoa and milk sugar.   Seems bittersweet.   Doesn’t appear to have much of a hop presense.   Smooth pale roasted malt start, subtle sweetness, a little cocoa too.   Did I mention smooth?   Some hop bitterness comes out at the finish.   Clean, soft coffee bean lingers.   This is perty darn good!   Many thanks to joebrew for sending me this wonderful creation!

[1030-20080108] 1pt (c/o DuctTape, w/ him, jerc, others). Malty booze aroma has a bit of burnt floral. Slightly hazy, dark red amber body with a long-lasting foamy off-white head. Boozy raisin fig malt flavour has a hint of mushrooms. Medium body. Average.

Can: The aroma consists of chocolate, caramel, light berries, and a hint of nuttiness. It’s a reddish-brown with some transparency and a small beige head. The flavor starts with caramel, berries, and chocolate. Finishes with light roasted nut notes and a hint of earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Pours to a bright dark ruby body with a creamy tan head. The aroma is tart, brown ale components. The flavor is nutty, creamy, and has a nice base of malt. Pretty well balanced. The palate is medium bodied with a nice creamy texture. A very nice brown.
