Commercial Description:
Get Surly! Here’s what happens when substance meets smooth. This oatmeal brown ale defies traditional categories. Bender begins crisp and lightly hoppy, complemented by the velvety sleekness oats deliver. Belgian and British malts usher in cascades of cocoa, coffee, caramel, and hints of vanilla and cream. An easy-drinking ale with many layers of satisfaction.

16 oz can shared thanks to xnoxhatex!! Pours a light brown with a tall thick beige head that collapses in chunks like an iceberg. Those cocoa carmel notes come through and then I am surprised by the hops that find their way to my nose - Pine and grapefruit. Similar flavors medium creamy body with a slight hop bite. Tasty and really fresh.

dark brown, nice large beige head. Aroma is sweet and hoppy, with a nice maltiness. Flavour is hoppy, but very subtle, with a nice caramel. Wow, this is a great session beer, crisp, and flavourful, i could drink this all night!

Source:500 mL can.
Glass:Killians English pint.
Appearance:Clear brown pour (similar to Coke) with a thin off white head.
Aroma:Aroma was nuts and chocolate.
Flavor:Flavor was caramel malt, with a nutty finish. A hint of chocolate on the front end as well.
Palate:Medium body with solid carbonation.
Overall:This was good, but not as good as Moose Drool or other similar beers.

RBSG 07. On tap at Surly. Dark brown/amber, ruby hues. Small tan head. Drinks like a bit fuller english brown without a twang. Toasty, biscuity, fresh oats. Creamy on the palate with a little carbonation bite on the finish. Medium body. Solid brown ale. From notes.

Can, thanks to tytoanderso. Aroma of fig, raisin, raspberry, caramel, subtle earthy hops, subtle coffee, generally malty and toasty actually with sweet fruit notes. Flavor has some very bitter chocolate and almost salty nuts, sort of different in subtleties from the aroma, but still very overall malty and mildly sticky as predicted by the malty fruitiness. Bitter, toasted toffee finish. Medium bodied and very drinkable. Tasty brown.

16 oz. can - thanks to tytoanderso for the trade; thin, light cola brown with foamy tan head; a little sweet with mild astringency; nutty with touch of chocolate on the nose; not that interesting overall; the coffee addition does wonders to this base

Can via trade. One guy says they have this on tap at the Minny airport. Really? Why don’t I move to Minnesota again? Oh yeah, it’s cold, flat, and boring. Sort of like your sist-...ok, I won’t go there. Just kidding. Now about the beer. Aroma of sweet malt, nuts, and coffee. Flavor is caramel malt, coffee, nuts, and chocolate. Well-balanced and tasty with a medium palate and smooth mouthfeel. I’d go on a Bender bender any day.

Can. Can’t believe that I haven’t rated this yet. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, hops, nuts and grain. Pours a rich dark brown with some amber highlights and a huge khaki head. Flavor has some nice grassy hops, dark chocolate and some roasted malt. Very crisp on the palate with average carbonation.
