Commercial Description:
Get Surly! Here’s what happens when substance meets smooth. This oatmeal brown ale defies traditional categories. Bender begins crisp and lightly hoppy, complemented by the velvety sleekness oats deliver. Belgian and British malts usher in cascades of cocoa, coffee, caramel, and hints of vanilla and cream. An easy-drinking ale with many layers of satisfaction.

Can, chris_o shindig. Dark copper brown with thin off-white head. Nose is sweet, sickly. Mouth is sweet with some sour taint to it. Keeps sweet with some metallic cannyness towards the very finish.

Can courtesy of tytoanderso. Pours a nice reddish brown with a bubbly 1 finger head. Aroma of malt, roasted nuts and vanilla. Nice medium bodied mouthfeel with flavors of caramel, malt, nuts, chocolate and rasins. This is a really nice brown ale. Viva Surly!

Tap @ Map Room in Chicago. I had it after the Surly Darkness, so my tasting might be a little off. A very flavorful Brown, more complex flavors than the average brown ale. I enjoyed it a lot. One of the better browns I have had.

Can courtesy tpd975. Pours brown with a one finger tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of oats, chocolate, and caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium creamy mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness. Very good.

Thanks to RagallachMC for the can. Deep brown, with crimson light coming through when you hold it up. Medium head, spare lacing. Aroma of earthy and floral hops, sweet grains, nuts, caramel and chocolate malts and coffee. Texture is creamy, body is full. More like a stout. If this is a brown, it’s the best damn brown you’ll ever taste.

Poured a dark brown color with red edges. good lacing and okay head. Aroma was of cocoa, and bublegum. Flavor was roasted, chocolate caramel as it warmed good beer. Much more like a porter then a brown ale.
