Commercial Description:
Get Surly! Here’s what happens when substance meets smooth. This oatmeal brown ale defies traditional categories. Bender begins crisp and lightly hoppy, complemented by the velvety sleekness oats deliver. Belgian and British malts usher in cascades of cocoa, coffee, caramel, and hints of vanilla and cream. An easy-drinking ale with many layers of satisfaction.

Can from Buckybeer. Amber/Brown in color with nice tan head. Good roasted aroma with some milds hops coming thru. The taste was quite pleasent with caramel, hops and good roasted character showing. The mouthful had some fizz but not in a bad way. Nice bitter/roasted finish.

Pours a cola brown black with a thin head and cola like bubbles. The nose is a bit roasty with that cola sort of acidity. Maybe it’s in my head? There’s a round relatively sweet malt and a slightly dry chocolate character. A bit of hops strikes me as slightly out of place, but still nice. A bit thin on the tongue, though not watery, this has certainly been filtered fairly well and force carbonated, but since it’s in a can, I can’t make off for that. The flavor is a step above. A round balanced dark malt bill complete with chocolate and hints of the caramel and vanilla they claim should be there. The hops are above and beyond what I expected, but fitting and welcome. Floral cascade like hops, really make this a beer worth drinking. The finish lingers with pleasantly dry roast and bitter hops. a bit acidic. Reminds me of a hopped up Bell Best Brown. I would make this my regular session beer if it were distributed here.

Can sampled with stegosaurus, care of faro99 trade. Mahogany pour chocolate roast aroma. Taste is pretty much thesame with a hint of coffee. Alittle thin for my taste but good none the less.

1 pint can from a trade with mcbackus. pours very dark brown with a red hue around the edges. pours with a mid sized tan head that stays with you. not much in the way of aromas. vanilla, chocolate and toffee if you really put some effort into it but the aromas dont jump out of the glass. flavours are very nice with chocolate and toffee for sweetness and a splash of hop bitterness. not dazzalingly complex but there is a lot going on here. the best brown ale ive had.

Can. Deep, nearly opaque orange-brown with a small tan head. Some nutty maltiness and a heavy citric floral hop component in the aroma. Sharp toastiness up front. Chalky chocolate, ruddy hop bitterness, some caramel. Lingering bitterness in the finish, coffee bean and grass. Mouthfeel is light, somewhat dry.

Pours a nice deep brown color, topped by a good inch of sudsy tan foam. Okay head retention, fantastic count-the-rings lacing. Bold chocolate malt with a sweet fruitiness in the aroma. Nice flavor. This beer is quite robust - lots of semi sweet chocolate malt, some caramel, and a delicious earthy presence. Hops are there for balance, but then a little bit of bitterness and flavor show up in the finish. A nice Belgian character. A nice British character. Absolutely American. Medium to full body, smooth and substantial carbonation. You could pound this beer if you want, or you could enjoy one with a steak, or even as a dessert beer. Very versatile, very delicious, very much recommended.

Tap @ Cafe 28. An excellent, full flavor, light body session beer. Tons of depth to this brew.

On tap at the Blue Nile. Got to meet Pigfoot, who works there. This is my first from this new brewer, and this one did not disappoint. Bready flavor, with roasted nut and coffee overtones. Head was light brown, mostly diminishing. A clear body. Hard to categorize the style, but nonetheless, it was enjoyable. I can’t wait to try the furious; I’ve heard it’s pretty good from others.
