Transparent mahogany with a cream ring for a head. Nose has vanilla, plum, chocolate and light coffee. Flavor is a bit ashy, which creates a singular flavor in chocolate dust, also some minor coffee and nut. Pretty silky body, light bitterness in the finish but no hop balance to enjoy. Drinkable, sweet, and balanced, just lacking some nuance.

Nov 25, 2007 The color was medium/dark brown. The head was cream, thin, and off-white. The aroma was coffee, chocolate, caramel malt, and sweet malt. The flavor was sweet malt, vanilla, molasses, coffee, and chocolate. The palate was smooth. The finish was clean.

Apr 21, 2009 Pours a dark brown color with a small off whoite head that quickly dissipates to a thin film. The aroma shows toasted caramel, chocolate, roasted malts, and nuts. The flavor is malt forward with the chocolate and caramel showing strong with the roast and some earthy hop bitterness on the backend. Medium bodied and goes down very smooth with good carbonation and a lingering roasted nut finish. Tried side by side with the Cigar City Maduro, but hard to compare when this can was a few months old. Still a solid brown ale.

May 9, 2008 16 oz. can courtesy thebeardedbrewer shared with the exec board. Pours brown with small, khaki head. Nose of chocolate and roast with a touc hof hops. Ok, a lot of hops and some coffee. Lots of roasty, burnt flavor with some chocolate. Good bitter melds with the roast. Good beer. Stone XI-esque. . . kinda.

Jan 3, 2007 Pours a very dark amber with a big frothy off white head that quickly fades. Very nice aroma and flavor. Great mild sour malts and hops. Hints of coffee and chocolate. Has sort of a refreshing tart finish. Another winner (from a can).

Jan 15, 2007 Good fruity yeast aroma with hint of bananas. Flavor is natural yeast, creamy, lightly roasted malt, and dried fruit. Body is creamy. Duration is slightly bitter but balanced. Deep brownish ready with frothy tan head.
Good.

Apr 28, 2008 16oz can from maximum12 (BA site). Pours black with a thin tan head which dissipated quickly. Nose was of smoke and roast malt with coffee. Taste is roast malt, coffee and nutty. Mouthfeel was thin and watery but still clean and flavorful.

Nov 1, 2008 Pint can courtesy of theisti. Pours a dark, muddy brown with a small tan head and a ring of lace that follows the beer down the glass. Nose is malt and chocolate. Palate is smooth and medium bodied. Not a lot of tingle on the tongue. Flavors are roasted malt, chocolate, some nuttiness, oatmeal, caramel & maybe a hint of coffee. Nice smooth, tasty, easy drinking brown ale.
