Commercial Description:
Get Surly! Here’s what happens when substance meets smooth. This oatmeal brown ale defies traditional categories. Bender begins crisp and lightly hoppy, complemented by the velvety sleekness oats deliver. Belgian and British malts usher in cascades of cocoa, coffee, caramel, and hints of vanilla and cream. An easy-drinking ale with many layers of satisfaction.

Can - Pours mahogany with a nice creamy tan head that’s gone pretty quickly. Lots of sweet malt in the nose, giving off caramel, vanilla, raisins, and just a touch of alcohol. Taste isn’t quite as good out of the can as I remember on tap. It’s sour and milky and finishes with some bitter chocolate, coffee, and hops. A little watery, but with enough body to still feel a little creamy. Not my favorite Surly brew, but still very solid.

suprised to see this spread out to the burbs and available at old chicago. had 4 beers this evening and this was definitely my favorite. nice balance of coffee malt and piney hops with a slight metalic finish. nicely done, cannot wait for more.

Love most every Surly, but this one not so much. Just seems like a non-descript, brown ale to me. OK malt, some nuts, some coffee, a bit thin if creamy, not much of an aftertaste. Easy to drink, but just leaves me wanting. I should have not had the Furious first, which was outstanding.

Pretty damn good for what it is, but it seems like these guys don’t know how to make a beer without a lot of hops.

Creamy mouthfeel is the highlight here. A nicely/slightly bitter brown with toast and bread flavors, backed by milk. Fast filling, so drink slow.

Tasting at thewolf. Pours a brown with red edges and a brownish head that quickly disappears. Aroma and Flavour is very sour (like a kitchen cloth), you can recognize some chocolate, but it is also very metallic and tart - very infected...
