Nose was of smoke and roast malt with coffee. Taste is roast malt, coffee and nutty. Mouthfeel was thin and watery but still clean and flavorful. fredandboboflo (1418), East Setauket, New York, USA

Aroma of fig, raisin, raspberry, caramel, subtle earthy hops, subtle coffee, generally malty and toasty actually with sweet fruit notes. Flavor has some very bitter chocolate and almost salty nuts, sort of different in subtleties from the aroma, but still very overall malty and mildly sticky as predicted by the malty fruitiness. Bitter, toasted toffee finish. Medium bodied and very drinkable. Tasty brown. WickerBrew (312), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Maybe a touch too sweet, but it all works. Furious is way better, but you wont hear me complaining if I am drinking this. pepsican (885), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA

Aroma is chocolate and a bit of hops. Flavor is heavily malted, lots of toasty malts, molasses, coffee, chocolate, vanilla. Finishes creamy. This was pretty darn good for a brown, I usually don’t like that style. timsilvia32 (447), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 8, 2009 Almost a reddish brown pour. Miniscule off white head. Smells, surprisingly floral, some pine with some malt and molasses. Light/medium body with a healthy dose of carbonation. Flavors of malt molasses and brown sugar. A surprisingly strong coffee note to me, would be curious to see how much more the coffee Bender has. Finishes real clean. Drinkability is not a problem for this one. Somewhere between a brown and a porter I guess. My friend did not like this one, I thought it was excellent. mtoast (298), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Very nice nutty malt aroma with some notes of hops. Very smooth flavor, malty without being sweet, very nice subtle bitterness. bhensonb (4298), Woodland, California, USA

Aromas of chocolate and treacle. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavors of citrus/resin over nicely roasted malt. Treacle too. Very smooth brown ale. But with lots of flavor. Finishes with a nice level of bitter on the rear tongue edges. Good beer. CaptainCougar (5494), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 19, 2007 Can thanks to footbalm: Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a nicely-lacing frothy tan head. Fresh green piny hoppy aroma has some roasted malt and coffee notes along with sweet caramel toffee. Body starts with a lightly sweet earthy dark caramel maltiness and crisp piny bittering and flavor hop balance. Palate has a fizzy dissolved carbonation and a smooth oatmeal finish with some lingering bittersweetness. An interesting hoppy brown ale.
