Commercial Description:
Get Surly! Here’s what happens when substance meets smooth. This oatmeal brown ale defies traditional categories. Bender begins crisp and lightly hoppy, complemented by the velvety sleekness oats deliver. Belgian and British malts usher in cascades of cocoa, coffee, caramel, and hints of vanilla and cream. An easy-drinking ale with many layers of satisfaction.

Pours a dark brown with a well retained light tan head. Smells of dark malts and dark fruits. A little bit sweet smelling. Taste is quite nutty, a little bit of roast and dark malts make up the flavors. very roasty on the palate, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Get a small dose of some caramel in the finish with some nuts and malts. Pretty good brown, especially for a canned beer. I find myself liking more and more canned beers, as i try new ones.

can. Pretty hoppy upfront, piney bitterness, followed by rich and smooth caramel malts. Very thick mouthfeel. There are notes of coffee and hints of roasted malts, but its pretty bitter overall. Very good beer.

Pours a deep crimson with mahogany clouds with a mid-sized, slowly receding beige head. The nose is very fresh and has alot going on. Notes of caramel malts, brown sugar, oranges, grapes, grapefruit pith and nuts. Lesser scents of roasted grain, cocoa powder and very mild coffee with sugar round out the aroma. Alcohol is not detected. The flavor expands a touch on the roast and coffee notes, still fruity and mildly hoppy. Sweetness is medium to medium-high, acidity is medium, bitterness mlid to medium. The mouthfeel is fantastically creamy, medium bodied, with high carbonation and a smooth and rich texture. Finishes dry, lightly to moderately bitter, roasted coffee and sugars lingering for a short while, caramel lingering on. Very good and though it’s not that exciting, it is incredibly easy to enjoy.

Thanks to MatSciGuy. Pour is deep dark brown with a medium light brown head. Aroma is roasted caramel malt, light chocolate, light coffee, earthy, and brown sugar. Flavor is crisp cookie malt with a a nice balance of sweetness and roasty bitterness. Notes off coffee and vanilla linger. Very easy to drink fuller bodied beer.

Can courtesy tpd975. Pours brown with a one finger tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of oats, chocolate, and caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium creamy mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness. Very good.
