Pours a dark brown with a medium, light tan head. Aroma of coffe, malt, and oats. Medium body with low carbonation. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, caramel, oats, malts, with some hops. Very good overall.

Can, thanks to Daknole. dark brown and clear. Nice mellow coffee aroma. Strange flavors, though. Somewhat lactic. Thin with low carbonation. Has more acidity than expected and is not roasty enough but still has redeeming qualities.

Can, thanks to tytoanderso. Clear mahogany with a large head. Aroma of coffee, cereal, nuts and earth. The coffee flavor really shines in this; roasted, smooth, not bitter. Medium bodied. A n outstanding session beer.

Rating #209 for this beer.

4/25/2009: Surly Coffee Bender is probably better than I have given it credit, but it’s so hard to be truly objective about a beer when it follows not only a huge, deeply flavorful and rich Imperial Stout, but the second highest rated beer on the site?! Needless to say, I would love to try Coffee Bender again, so please consider sending me a can or two if you have some to spare! At any rate, this beer has a good coffee flavor all around and is balanced in everyway. I like the bitterness and roasted quality that the ground coffee beans impart. This is a great beer in general and even better since it is available in a can!

11/02/2009: Surley Coffee Bender... Aroma: Iced coffee latte; nutty. Appearance: Opaque, dark reddish-orange-brown head that is frothy, ivory-colored, and lasting; detailed lacing marks top to bottom. Flavor: Rich, intense iced espresso coffee with a touch of cream, plenty of caramel maltiness, and a wonderful blend of coffee-like acidity and earhty, resin hop flavor and bitterness in the finish; lots of nutty coffee bean flavor and a moderate bitterness overall. Palate: Medium-bodied, goes down easily. Overall: Very good, but the coffee definitely dominates a bit much.

16 fl. oz. can ( 5.1% ALC/VOL; IBUs - 45 ) from Skyview via trade. Thanks Bob! Rating: 8/4/8/3/15 = 3.8

Canned. Deep brown body with pretty garnet when held to light. The head is thin with a light khaki color. Deep coffee nose with some notes of dark chocolate and plums. The taste is medium coffee with some roast and milk chocolate. There is also a little bit of fresh raw soybean in the finish. Overall, a nice brew with coffee being th dominant flavor.

A- Pours a deep brownish red letting almost no light through. Creamy, two finger head fades with a little lacing. S- Coffee Coffee and more Coffee! Lots of roasted malt. T- Very coffee heavy all the way through slightly acidic, bitter coffee flavor is left on the tongue. M- Medium bodied with medium to low carbonation. D- This is very flavorful for the amount of alcohol. I personally felt the acidity and raw coffee flavor was a little too much to handle but i’m sure coffee lovers will get their fix on this one.
