Man, I’ve been eager for this one for a while and it doesn’t disappoint. Dark brown pour with a surprisingly frothy head. I’m a fan of the base beer, which is far more complex and quirky than most browns, with a signature toasted malt and slightly bitter flavor. So the coffee addition - and seriously, this is lovely, full coffee flavor - really works well. Long and smooth finish complements the full mouthfeel. Some bitter choc in there too, along with a faint woody note. Really great. I would drink tons and tons of this were it available locally. SuperWhite92 (22), , Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 28, 2009 Dark black, head fades rather quick. Aroma is very pleasant- like a good black coffee with a noticable back. I’m pretty impressed with that aspect. Taste is good. The original bender is still apparent, but it’s accented with the wonderful coffee flavors, and either more chocolate, or the chocolate flavor is also created with the addition of the coffee. I’m getting a kick out of these Surly brews. Worth a taste for sure. Syd (903), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 24, 2009 Can pours dark with red brown highlights with a small head that laces. The aroma is coffee and Bender. The flavor is somehow sweeter than I anticipated since Bender really isn’t this sweet as I remember. The palate is rich and slick. Overall, this is another good effort. Trev (886), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA

Aroma is coffee, some chocolate and burnt malt.
Flavour is col coffee, dark roast bitterness combines well with nutty chocolate tones. I like it better than regular Bender. mreusch (741), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 23, 2009 16oz. can, from the ever awesome tytoanderso! Pours a clear dark brown with burgundy highlights and a one finger tan head, good retention and lacing. Aroma is fresh coffee, with some subdued chocolate, toffee and caramel. Flavor is more coffee, again with background notes of light chocolate, toffee and roasty malts. This is a well done coffee beer that works well for me. Not the intensity and complexity of espresso, but the cold pressed coffee does it’s thing nicely and is a good enhancement to the regular Bender. Thanks again Ty!
