Nice creamy white head, fairly surging at first but settles soon enough to film and strings. Nice nose, some dry leaves, wheat husk, maybe some toast and crackers. Creamy medium body, well-placed but subdued carb. Dry leaves, wheat husk, crackers, toast, and a bit of darkened caramel on the mid-palate. The leafy thing is way more like a brown ale than a saison IMO, but not in an unpleasant way. Just a nice twist. Not getting any of the black pepper, apricot, peach, or floral notes that the brewer advertises. NMC01 (58), Denmark

Not too over edge at any point and that hoppy ending really suits this ale really nicely. alagnak (359), Littleton, Colorado, USA

Taste is really interesting for the style, the yeast is prevalent early on, with a nice spicy, tart finish. As it warms, peaches and bananas show up as well, the yeast flavor intensifies, and there’s a pleasant bitterness to finish. Nice one, thanks TIm. pantanap (1357), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 5, 2009 A good, drinkable saison. CynicAle pours a bright, copper color with pale white lacing. The aroma is honey, caramel malt and floral hops. The flavor is quite clean for a saison, but there’s still some farmhouse character in there. The bitterness is particularly nice on an otherwise honey-sweet beer. The feel is medium light and appropriate to the flavor. Drinkability is quite high, but I’m a sucker for the style. Again, I dearly wish that I could have easy access to Surly’s beers. JPDIPSO (4923), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 1, 2009 Dark golden color with an off-white fairly small head. Quite fruity in aroma, mostly light fruit with peaches, pears and hint of tropical fruit. Background, has some dough and and floral hops. Initial fruit flavors with some more peaches. HInts of grapefruit early in the middle leading to a dry biting peach pit astringency. For me that is when this one falls apart and loses balance. Dry spices in the finish. Linger has some dry grains and is also a bit woody and a touch medicinal. I’ve had plenty of Belgian ales like this, so it is in decent company. scattershot (10), Minnesota, USA
