nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Jun 5, 2009 This beer has an angry-sounding name, and it’s fitting because it was "mad" good! Can acquired via trade. Incredible crimson-amber color with a lasting two-finger off-white head. One of the best-looking IPAs I’ve seen. Great citrus/floral hop aroma. Flavor is somewhat unique with caramel malt mixed with bready notes, balancing a grapefruity and floral hop profile. Palate medium for the style. Great IPA overall. Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Jun 2, 2009 Thanks Shep. Poured from a can. Dark caramel color with a nice long lasting tan head. Busy carbonation. Big hop nose with citrus and floral notes. The flavor is the same with a big hop profile. Floral and grapefruit. Interesting choice of malt there is a light roasted effect. Some biscuit, as well. It is very bitter from the first sip. Finish is more complex fruit. There aren’t many IPAs better than this one! So well crafted. 13mikey (117), New Hope, Minnesota, USA Jun 2, 2009 Updated: Oct 8, 2009I love the IPAs with the heavy citrus hops aroma and the taste to match.
This is my favorite beer of the year so far. snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 1, 2009 On tap at the Happy Gnome. Pours slightly hazy orange amber with a nice frothy off-white head. Huge nose of citrus, pine, and floral hops. Decent balance from caramel and biscuity malts in the taste. Nice citrus hop finish. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA May 31, 2009 can at Fort Wayne tasting - Pours hazy orange with a lingering off-white head. The aroma is mostly citrus hops. Flavor is big citrus hops with some mild malt backing. It’s medium bodied and of course finishes with long lasting hops bitterness. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but given the rating I thought I’d enjoy it more. j12601 (1149), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA May 28, 2009 Big fat 16oz can from Ty. Thanks a bunch man. Pours a clean, clear, light ruby amber with a very large tanned beige head. Smells absolutely delicious with a huge crisp pine and honeyed citrus hop smell. Medium body, light sweet malt. Finishes with a huge quinine bitterness. Very tasty. Shame these cans don’t make it to NY without the help of a trade box. coyotehunter (542), , Michigan, USA May 23, 2009 Big hearty thanks to MrBunn on this one. Aroma is all grapefruit...all the way.Pours a dark amber with a very nice head and lace. That said however, the flavor didn’t blow my socks off. Not in a bad way, but I just expected a more powerful bitter here. Some good malty characteristics, some floral and pine notes, but pulls through a little weak.Finish is bitter and a touch metallic at the back of the throat. All together its still damn drinkable...That smell is fantastic. walrussell (93), , Illinois, USA May 22, 2009 Updated: Sep 11, 2009From tap. Wow. I don’t know if its the hoppiest beer I have ever tried, but I have never had a beer where the hops come through so powerfully. Also - the sourness you sometimes get from very hoppy beers was very present here. I’m not saying I didn’t like this beer, but there have been so many IPAs I’ve tried that I like more. I think I need a little more balance from alcohol or sweetness, or something. Definitely worth trying.
