garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 27, 2009 Thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: Murky/hazy amber with a small off white head. Aroma: Nice hop start with a toasty wood/pine element, floral and malty. Interesting. Flavour: Lovely sweet/bitter hop flavour with pine, malt, grapefruit, quite chewy, nice long hop finish. Lovely. anders37 (4516), Malmö, Sweden Mar 27, 2009 Can @ chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2008. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a malty hoppy bitter piney aroma. Sweetish malty hoppy bitter piney flavor with some hints of grapefruit. Has a sweetish malty bitter hoppy piney finish with a long bitter aftertaste. Pours a dark red-orange, lovely peach and pineapple nose that is complex, hoppy, and not overbearing. Great malt balance, warm and chewy, even some chocolate whispers in there, playing around in SN Celebration territory. My first time with this beer; it lives up to the hype. Great stuff! bookman10 (84), Osseo, Minnesota, USA Mar 21, 2009 Intensely bitter and hoppy. Very complex mix of flavors--could that be grapefruit? Pours amber-gold, with a fairly nice, thick head. Had on tap and in can on numerous occasions. zer0crew (55), Duluth, Minnesota, USA Mar 19, 2009 Updated: Sep 30, 2009On tap at Barley Johns. Great aroma, god and hoppy but not too overpowering. Definitely a well-executed blend of a few different hops. Sweet IPA. roborb (59), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Mar 18, 2009 Cans from DBhog and lb4lb, thanks guys!
Poured into a standard pint glass this beer produced a nice amber hue with a long lasting 1 finger head. The aroma consisted of pine and citrus. The taste almost mirrors the smell for me. I found that the first sip is very crisp due to the hop profile and carbonation. This beer, however, finished very dry. This is an excellent IPA and should be looked out for. Well done Surly! nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 14, 2009 Cask at Day of the Living Ales, Tea-bagged version. This won the festival last year, and it was my vote this year (or at least in my top 3). It’s just a really great IPA that is really great on cask, and really awesome with the addition of the tea bagging. Remarkably round - an excellent compliment between malt and piney hops. Complex but not contrived. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA Mar 10, 2009 Can poured into pub glass. Pour is deep amber with frothy white head. Aromas of piney hops, resin, slight fruit, and some citrus. Flavor is crisp and finishes somewhat dry. Resin, piney hops, and malt are throughout. Very nice for an IPA.
