Commercial Description:
Like Hops? You'll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it's about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

20 oz. Imperial Pint draft at the Galway Tribes (Frankfort, IL). Poured a wonderous dark amber with a translucent body, nice tan head, and a very inviting appearance. Aromas were like a bouquet, very floral with some nice citrus notes and a touch of sweet malts. Initial taste was heaven. Very assertive floral hops that broke way to some citrus notes. A nice complimentary malt body that balances extremely well with intense hop character. Beautiful!

big angry peaches in the aroma. Full malt keeps the powerful hop flavor from being overwhelming. Good.

1 pint can, a soapy heavy hoppiness is the essence of this beer. Major Creamy off-white head that is fully lasting. A crystal clear amber color with no particles. A massive bitterness that starts and ends the same. Extremely long duration in flavor. Medium bodied with soft carbination. A beautiful looking beer that does not taste as good as it looks. To bad I expected more from Surly. Would Not go out of my way for this. I might have a bad batch after reading some of the other reviews. I will try this again in a few months and in a diffent setting to see if my rating changes.

From a pint sized can... Appears a hazy, semi-transparent orange toned amber with moderate CO2 streams that quickly rise to the top. A 2 finger, beige head of cream slowly fades into a mild cap and heavy collar. Tubular lacing is left all around the glass. Very nice. Smell is of caramel, pine, citrus, grass, and toasted biscuits. Taste is that of the aromas with a sweet, caramel covered biscuit flavor that has been toasted in a brick oven that’s been fired by cut pine with some tangerine peels thrown into the flame. Along with aforementioned journey through the brick oven, the beer offers some doughy yeast, and a touch of pepper and spice. Mouthfeel is silky upon the first sip, leading to a nice bite of spice in a medium bodied, sugary, bitter but balanced brew.

Pours a deep burnt amber color with a thick foamy off-white head that was gone after a few seconds. Grapefruit with a grassy cat pissy note in the back. I love cheesing. A little noticeable alcohol as well. There is an outstanding caramel balance to the hop flavor. The hops are primarily citrus, but there is a noticeable piny resin and a bit of tea floral. A medium body. A very good IPA.

My Bottom Line:
The bursting, unfettered hoppy festivities of this India Pale Ale seduce the lupulus lover with minty, resinous, and grassy petals atop a slender caramel malt stem. One cannot help but be hypnotized by this luminosity.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam protects the misty amber copper.
-This could be a little too intense for non-hopheads, but for those looking for a hop fix, this as bright and fresh as it gets.
-This might not be balanced, but who cares.
-The mouthfeel is softly carbonated, and the malt’s just big enough to provide sustenance while never taking drinkability away.

Can.

Pours a nice hazy amber-copper with a thick off white head. Aroma is floral hop initially then pine, all backed by a toasty malt. Flavour carries the pine hop through a medium caramel malt body. Finishes dryish bitter. Very tasty.
