matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Apr 2, 2008 1 pint can from a trade with mcbackus. a big thanks to matt for hooking me up with some surly. pours deep orangish/red with a mid sized tan head. darker then most IPA’s ive had. aromas are citrus hops, piney hops and caramel malts. flavours are sweet citrus and caramels initially but then the bigger hop varieties come in for a big bitter hop finish. very enjoyable. thanks again matt anytime you wanna send some surly my way im cool with that! Hoonerific (14), USA Mar 31, 2008 What a wonderful wonderful beer! I’ve just gotten turned on to IPAs lately and after one of these on tap I’m hooked! Smell and look...both heavenly. Tasted just like a hopper should - a perfect blend of hops with hints of citrus. Perfect finish and very refreshing. And the best part it is (which I did not know at the time of sampling) was they are a 10 minute drive from me. Soooooo happy! EHopper (274), Minnesota, USA Mar 30, 2008 Being a hop lover, this beer starts with an advantage. That said, this is special. The aroma is so enticing, like skiing through the pines on a warm spring day when the sap has just begun to run, but with a hint of a tropical island fruit. The flavor starts there and then smoothly moves to an explosive, pleasant bitter flavor that lingers just the perfect amount of time. From beginning to end, and even to the next, the anticipation and enjoyment remains. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Mar 30, 2008 Nov. 2007 - Pour was dark brown color with good inch head and nice lacing. Strong aroma of hop. Flavor was kick you in the teeth pine and citrus hops with a nice caramel malt backbone with a touch of chocolate and maybe even some earthiness. Really bitter, but not unpleasant. Good brew! EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Mar 29, 2008 Clear orange pour with a thick white head. Very hoppy aroma with fruits and berries, maybe mango and melon. Very good flavor. Lots of hops, but they don’t overpower. Pineapple and mango. Very good, but a tad bitter, could use a touch of sugar. Best beer in can I’ve ever had. Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam Mar 26, 2008 Awesome beer, thanks oakes! Pours reddish with really solid fluffy head. Intense hoppy nose has hints of raspberry and other berries. Perfectly smooth, balanced character with woody finish. Scrumptious flavors bordering on perfection. Nice slippery mouthfeel. Absolutely lovely IPA! kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Mar 25, 2008 Updated: Apr 3, 2009Cask version at the 2008 Night of the Living Ales at Goose Island - Wrigleyville. Going by the moniker Tea-bagged Furious this was an impressive beer for my first Surly offering. Very hoppy, fully floral resinous and very fresh aroma and flavor. Creamy but not oily a very nice brew.
Draught 04/02/2009. Reddish amber with a moderate creamy off-white head. Full creamy lacing down the side of the glass. Sweet floral and piney hops, very nice. Flavor is quite piney, particularly in the finish, sweet upfront. Full hoppy but with enough malt to provide a full body. Nice bitter lingering aftertaste.

Amazingly the exact same numerical rating both on my first try cask and the draught version. A really good IPA. Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 25, 2008 Very transparrent caramel orange color with one finger of tannish white head. Slight citrus grapefruit aroma, some slight fruity must. Flavor is nice bitter citrus grapefruit combo.. Good resinous finish dries the tongue quite a bit. Nice carbonation with somewhat oilly mouthfeel. Very nice IPA, very bitter indeed!
