Commercial Description:
Like Hops? You'll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it's about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

From a Big Boy Can. O ya. Pours out a nice amber topped with a off white head. A very nice hop aroma along with a great hop tast. A very nice and thick body. Thanks Jake.

Can from tytoanderso - thanks, dude! I must say that this brew pretty much lives up to its rep (as is true for all Surly beers I’ve now tried). A lustrous copper pour with a nice silky head, and very good retention (in a can!). A bit aroma of citrus and pine, but extremely well balanced with the malts, giving the beer a pleasant heft. I would drink this by the case if it were readily available here!

Can from Tytoanderso - Thanks! Pours a dark amber colow with a medium, creamy beige head. Thick lacing. Nose is intense with citrus, pine, and caramel. Flavor is full of hops, citrus and piney. The maltiness is subtle, this is lives up to the hop loaded hype. I really enjoyed this brew!

Can Pours a deep redish amber with a light tan head. Big woody bitter aroma. Flavor was very bitter and a bit of sour fruit at the end. Big long late IBU bite.

Hazy copper pour with small off-white head. Aroma leans toward the malts — toasted grain, — but is also moderately hoppy with notes of flowers, resin and grapefruit. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter and slightly acidic. The hops are more dominant in the flavor, presenting bitterness and flowers on top of the malt sweetness. Medium body and slightly sticky texture. Fairly good balance between malts and hops.

Can: Pours a creamy carmel with a smallish white head. The nose is hops and more hops - deep grapefruit and orange with some rind as well. A healthy dose of caramel backs the bitterness. Chewy mouthfeel. The hops take center stage again, but much brighter and defined. Fresh pressed OJ, sugary grapefruit and rose petals lead into a bitter, rindy finish. Another good one from Surly.

16-oz can. Thanks, Theisti! Pours murky dark brown with golden brown highlights and a thick, sudsy off-white head. Intermittent little puffs of cumulus lacing down the sides. Big piney nose with hints of sharp grapefruit zest. Medium body, active carb, very refreshing attack with plenty of toast and pine/fruit. Nice clean-drinking mid-palate and then a big wash of piney creosote resin across the back. Nice stuff, kinda harsh, bracingly refreshing.

Thanks to Boboski for this.(I think) Pour is copper/brown with a creamy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus, floral and sweet malts. Nice initial bitterness with nice malt balance. Finishes with a good malt roasty flavor. Also a bit earthy and nutty. Nice creamy and medium/full mouthfeel.
