| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Updated: Jun 16, 2009Rating this again, as my original was way too old to reflect my love for this beer. Deep reddish copper pour with a nice, thick head. The aroma is a massive amount of pine and caramel malt. The carbonation is perfect, as is the body. Incredibly refreshing, crisp, biting hops dominate the flavor, with a rich malt complexity in the background. Fantastic IPA. Goodgrief (1161), Middletown, Delaware, USA

Strong aroma of hop. Flavor was kick you in the teeth pine and citrus hops with a nice caramel malt backbone with a touch of chocolate and maybe even some earthiness. Really bitter, but not unpleasant. Good brew! IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 11, 2007 Thanks to HawkEye19 for this beer. Poured a dark effervescent amber with a fizzy/creamy off-white head. Nice aroma of ruby red grapefruit and pine, with a bit of maple syrup. Some buttery notes sneak in as it warms. Flavor is intense and hoppy with notes of bitter grapefruit and pine needles predominating, with a touch of toffee, leading to a long dry and bitter finish. This started out great, but subtle flaws like a bit of butteriness crept in as it warmed, adding a mild tarnish to what otherwise would have been a pristine hop experience. Body also felt a tad soft and creamy for the style. There’s some great bitterness here coupled with good hop flavor, though in the future I will have to prevent it from warming too much. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 2, 2009 Pours a hazy amber color with a foamy head that lasts a while. Great aroma of grapefruit and pine resin hops, , light sweet fruit, and a touch of toasty malt. Flavor follows along the same lines. Nice lingering dry bitter finish. Simply a fantastic IPA. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA

Upon the first couple of sips I thought this is one great beer, lots of fruit in aroma and taste with a nice biscuit backbone. But after 3 sips the fruit all but disappears and this turns into a fairly standard tasting IPA with above average bitterness on finish. Had me at the start but lost me in the end. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 22, 2008 12 oz. can from my brother. Deep orange amber with a substantial off white head and nice lace. Huge hop aroma with assertive citrus and pine, but nicely supported by a solid malty presence. Medium body and carbonation, deliciously resinous mouthfeel. Up front caramel sweetness succumbs quickly to the hop onslaught, resulting in a very dry, bitter finish that goes on and on. Among the better IPAs. Gregis (1134), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 3, 2007 A huge thanks to theisti for hauling this one back from the Twin Cities for me. Pours a clear, dark amber/brown with a large, frothy, beige head. The aroma punches you in the face with heavy grapefruit and pine and just a touch of sweet caramel malts hiding in the background. The mouthfeel is the closest thing to perfect that I’ve ever gotten from and IPA; medium-bodied, creamy and lightly effervescent with a tight bitter finish. The flavor is an excellent blend of sweet caramel malts and in-your-face grapefruit and piney hops. Any hop head that has yet to savor this brew should immediately add it to their "want" list and start making friends with someone from The Land of a Thousand Lakes. The folks in MN are truly fortunate. Thanks again Tim.
