Commercial Description:
Like Hops? You'll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it's about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

9/28/09 notes: poured at GABF, sampled both Thursday and Saturday. Because it is delicious. Pours amber with a surprising amount of brown coloration. Head is cream white. Aroma has a strawberry-piney aroma, with a dash of citrus. Palate is a success of creamy-crisp contrast, which works well with the flavors. I got a tart-bitter blend of strawberries and pine, always flirting but never actually perceived as sweet. Finish has refreshing bitterness. I great IPA, balanced, bitter, and interesting.

Can courtesy of tytoanderso. Thanks Tyler! Pours a FURIOUS cloudy reddish brown with a medium sized white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, pine and delicious. Flavor is hoppy, bitter, sweet, malty but very well balanced in all directions in the initial sip and then a bitterness sneaks up on the back of your tongue. Another winner from Surly.

Bottle, Chris_o shindig. Thin copper, no head. Slightly sour nose, astringency. Very fizzy mouthfeel. Very very hoppy. Harsh on palate, leaves slight sweet linger.

16 oz. can shared with Lubiere (merci!), served almost cold in a goblet. MA26/07.

App.: Lazy orange-brown, flecks of yeast, small light tan head. Aroma: Tons of piney-citrusy hops (marmalade) ;some sweet malts behind that. Palate: Medium body and carbonation. Flav.: Lots of caramel and cotton candy esters; bitter orange marmalade; slightly off-dry, good bitterness with a great citrusy aftertaste.

Great stuff! I was furious that the can was empty so fast.

Thanks to Kramer. Burgundy pour, small white head. Aroma is grapefruit and floral. Flavor is grapefruit, floral, with a bready pine finish and a resiny aftertaste. There is a big bitterness to this that makes it not a thirst quencher. Big maltiness with a subtly sweet touch of caramel and biscuit and bready notes pretty domainant but the grapefruit and resin rule this beer. Just too much bitterness, it’s all resin. Probably past it’s prime.

Thanks to RagallachMC for the can. Clear orange with a large head. Good retention. Fair lacing. Heavy aroma of fresh citrus and pine hops. Taste adds the caramel sweetness which was covered in the aroma. Also tastes some burnt malt. Ends with a big, bitter bite. All so very fresh. I really gotta hand it to the canned angle.

Can courtesy of tpd975. Pours a clear amber with a one finger lasting light tan head that leaves great lacing. Aroma of pine, citrus, and floral hops with a soft balance of sweet malt and caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a strong but well balanced amount of bitterness. Damn good.

Can, courtesy Guerde. Perfect pour: dark brownish red, big carbonated sparkling white head, and tons of dry, cotton-like lacing on the glass. Aroma is malty, but coated with citrus. Semi-sweet chocolate notes, too. Pine is masked by an overall balance. Hops hit the tongue first, and the malty body takes over soon after. A harmony of pine, citrus, mango, caramel, and vanilla. Medium-bodied. Sticky and refreshing. Easy to drink and extremely balanced.
