Commercial Description:
Like Hops? You'll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it's about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

Damn you surly, why do you put you stuff in a can. I wish i could mistake this for a macro swill and chug it for the price of those. Cracked the can, and an abundance of hops jumped straight out at me. About perfect temp at 56 degrees in my basement. Nice full head with a great aroma. Wonderful balance to it, the malt balances the hops, but they still make their way straight to the forefront of the flavor. I was worried for a second after reading the can it would have to much malt like some IPA’s tend to have. Very drinkable at 6.2%, youll never know it. Since the hops aren’t crazy high, you can drink without taking a breather from an insane amount like Two Hearted (which i love), but makes this a great beer in its own right. Permanent want list.

Poured into a nonic. Very dark for an IPA, I’m expecting it to be malty. Head is tan and an inch tall. Lots of sticky lacing. Aroma is a blast of resiny, oily hops. Mainly pine, but some floralness too. I get a little sweet breadiness in the background as well. A blend of sweet caramel malt and pine-filled hops washes over the tongue, leaving behind a pointed hop bitterness that isn’t at all unpleasant. Less malty than the color would indicate, but still a nice balance here. Medium body, sticky and resiny from the hops, but the bitter finish is enticing.

Being a hop lover, this beer starts with an advantage. That said, this is special. The aroma is so enticing, like skiing through the pines on a warm spring day when the sap has just begun to run, but with a hint of a tropical island fruit. The flavor starts there and then smoothly moves to an explosive, pleasant bitter flavor that lingers just the perfect amount of time. From beginning to end, and even to the next, the anticipation and enjoyment remains.

I’ve been drinking Furious for about 9 months now and this is a beer that just keeps getting better. I’ve actually noticed a considerable increase in hoppieness with about my last months perchases in the can. I didn’t notice it so much as when I’d had it on tap last week at the Muddy Pig.

19 oz can into mug. 19 oz at a time is a great thing. Pours very dark golden-brown with a thick, dark beige head. Wonderful aroma of citrus, coriander, and pine/grass. Very strong flavors of grapefruit, lemongrass, pine, and plenty of hops, with notes of caramel. Nice, full bodied beer. Finishes with a strong bitterness and leaves a little residual in your mouth. Just awesome.

Sublime! 500ml can bought at Surdycks in Minneapolis Minnesota. The grapefruit aroma leaps out of the can. On tasting it’s certainly more sweet hop forward than malty but the balance creeps in later in the flavor profile. Well rounded in the final analysis and soooo drinkable that it’s certainly a favorite.

Pours a lightly hazy golden amber with an average creamy off white head. Aroma of grapefruit, orange, great fresh hop aroma, caramel malt balance. Flavor of grapefruit, caramel malt balance followed by a great hop bitterness on the back of the tongue.
