AndrewKScott (330), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jul 6, 2008 On tap at Durty Nellies in Palatine, IL. This marks the first time I ever went to a bar because I read on rate beer that a certain beer was on tap. I feel kind of like a beermo. The beer was awesome, though. Nice caramel malt with lots of awesome hops. Dry, bitter finish. Pretty awesome IPA.
BrotherGrendel (135), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 28, 2008 1 pint can, contents poured into a Stone OG tulip glass.
Appearance is a cloudy deep amber hue with ruby highlights, huge off-white head of craggy foam, thick sticky lacing.
Smell is honey sweetened grapefruit, balanced by a fair amount of caramel and bread malts, slight alcohol.
Taste is dominated by sweet and sour grapefruit hops that are kept in check by a prominent malt profile of breads, caramel, and roast, finishes dry and malty.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, watery texture with an oily resin coating, mild carbonation.
A solid IPA at 6%abv, well-balanced with a surprising malt presence, this definitely has less hops than what we find with SoCal IPAs and it is refreshing to find an example of malts playing nice with hops. bluemooner (75), Rogers, Minnesota, USA Aug 27, 2008 Pours a dark amber hue with foamy, white head and some lacing. Tastes quite bitter but still balanced. Hints of malts, citrus, and pine. A very bitter beer but still has a great flavor. hombrepalo (457), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 27, 2008 On Tap @ Binny’s South Loop. Really enjoyable. Pour quite a dark amber glowing color, almost brown. Head is creamy and light tan in color, lots of beutiful lace. Malty, grapefruit, caramel, toffee, lots of piney hops, bitter, citrus, and very well balanced. Slightly earthy and a nice creamy mouthfeel. Very good, enjoyed every moment of this wouderfully crafted beer.
SuzyGreenberg (934), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 27, 2008 16 oz. can - thanks to biegman for the trade; pours dark amber with spotty white head; slight haze throughout; a rich, malty beast w/ bitter, dank citrus aromas; rich and creamy with a ton of body; hops are muted (in a good way) with the thick, juicy malts; a great IPA ortenzil13 (4), USA does not count Aug 21, 2008 I’ve had draft and out of the pounder cans. This is a good looking beer with good hop taste. Has some body to it. For the price, its a good find.
