The aroma and flavor were quite reminiscent of a mai bock, with heavy sweet malt. The hops were almost non-existent compared to other Surly products. I thought it was very enjoyable and easy to drink.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 31, 2009 Pours golden with white head, aroma is bready and lemony. Taste up front is a bit of lemon and hay like malt that leads into the smooth bready malt of the lager yeast with a bit of sweetness at the end. While not a pilsner fan, these guys made a good pilsner. rudolf (1789), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Can, thanks Santa! Clear golden yellow body, white head with nice lacing. Nose is lemony & grassy hops, some sweet toasty malt, a bit floral with maybe a hint of honey. Nothing really stands out in the flavor, rather a whole bunch of different things mingle together perfectly - bready malt, grassy & floral hops (like a springtime field, seriously.), bitterness increases towards the finish but so does the malt leading to a great, slightly tingly finish that goes on and on. More American breweries need to make beers like this. I would drink this all the time if it was available around here. scrizzz (1346), kirkland, Washington, USA

Nice and crisp, little grassy and somewhat metallic. I could drink this beer all night, quite the statement from me. bhops (334), Dallas, Texas, USA

Appearance: Looks like a typical macro lager - pale straw color; transparent; white head; finely detailed lacing. Flavor: Toasted malts; wheat bread crust; delicate yeastiness; mild bitterness with a nice spicy/grassy noble hop bite; crisp finish. Palate: Medium-light; good mouthfeel; fairly smooth. Overall: Really nicely done Helles bier; very sessionable.
1 pint can from Skyview via trade. Thanks Bob! Rating #103 for this beer.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 12, 2009 On tap at the Bavarian Lodge, Lisle,IL. and dispensed to a BL shaker with a light golden hue, a modest, white, bubbly head and etched-like, clingy lacing on the glass. The nose was distinctive Pils malt, with light grain, and a hint of lemon grass. The flavor added light hop spice, mellow bitterness and a pleasant dryness. Crisp, clean, and very sessionable. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 11, 2009 On tap at the Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, IL. This one poured with a lighter standard white pour, light-medium body, and golden orange color. Overall, a very nice balanced and solid crisp feel to this beer. Everything went down quite pleasantly, and it made for a darn good experience because of its drinkability and subtle uniqueness. It had an interesting combination of notes on both aroma and flavor of bread, amber grains, zesty citrus, and pilsner grass. A very nice lighter beer. BeerGestapo (740), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA
