on tap. pours black with a white head. The aroma is smokey and chocolate. The taste is huge yet very smooth with a lot of chocolate and vanilla. The beer is very balanced with a great lingering flavor.

On tap at the Great Taste of the Midwest (8/9/08): Mostly opaque dark mahogany black with a thin, wispy-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and chocolate with nice smoky character. Body starts rich, smooth and bittersweet with great smoky character throughout and just the right amount of sweetness. A very nice smoked Baltic porter.

[Tap] Had this a few times, at the brewery and at Stub ’n Herb’s. Pours a pitch black with a small, creamy tan head. Aroma is smoky and meaty, a touch of chocolate and some underlying roasted malts. Flavor is big and beefy, lots of smoke, chocolate, coffee, and light fruity flavors.

2009 Boulder Strong Ale Festival: Sweet and smoky nose. Big ham flavor. Perhaps some bacon, too. Soft and creamy mouthfeel, with a low carbonation level. Caramel and chocolaty malts. Light smoke and campfire in the finish.

On tap at Boulder Strong Ale Fest poured an opaque dark brown with a lasting brown head. Aromas of smoked meat, carmel and cocoa. Palate was mediuym bodied and smooth. Flavors of smoked beef, cocoa and light vanilla with a smooth lingering smokey finish.

Crushed with Jakebra at BSAF. Smoked bacon! That’s all I got. Huge brew. Best smoked I’ve ever had. One of the highlights.

On tap at BSAF. Poured a deep brown/black color witha creamy quarter-inch beige head that faded to a thick layer. Aroma of smoke, light meat, chocolate, roasted malts, and some dark fruit. Smooth, moderately sweet entry with some smoke leads into a sweet chocolaty flavor paired with some roasted malts along with undertones of dark fruit (plum and grape) that leads into a moderately dry, oaky finish with some lingering smoke. Moderate carbonation and nice mouthfeel. I really enjoyed this beer, I wish it was bottled.

Thanks to Beerlando for bringing this growler. Aroma is fairly light, reminds me of smoked ham. Flavor is lightly smoked with a little more coffee and/or chocolate in there. Very good.
