Commercial Description:
Sweetwater Blue is a unique lighter style ale enhanced with a hint of fresh blueberry. When you drink this beer take a good whiff first and you’ll smell the blueberry influence, but on the taste it’s extremely subtle and the finish is extra clean. Ain’t no fruit beer, but it is our breakfast beer, usually folks that are looking to quench their thirst or for those that are new to the “good beer” lifestyle; this is their choice. This brew and the ESB were the original two to go through the tanks at SweetWater in February 1997.

Medals: Bronze medal winner at the 1998 World Beer Cup, Fruit Beer category; Always the funky favorite at any outdoor beer festival

Malt: 2 Row, Wheat

Hops: Centenial

I love this beer... but after reading some ratings, I agree with most of them... it is thin, no head, nothing out of this world, but as one who does not like fruit beers, this one is great. The aroma is of fresh blueberries... I think what I like about this fruit beer is that it does not taste like fruit was added to beer... more like it was brewed with little bitterness and milder malt notes to let the blueberries take front stage. Great warm weather beer.

12 oz bottle from Jimbowood. This is the kind of beer that would never fare well on Ratebeer, but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Aroma is fantastic - light hops and tons and tons of Blueberries. The color is also a nice golden color and the flavor is light, refreshing with a hint of fresh hops and blueberries. This is a nice summer quencher.

Pours a cloudy pale golden. Aroma is rich with blueberry, but its not only blueberry. theres a bouquet of scents in there. Taste is slightly reminiscent of a Belgian White. smooth, fruity, not overwhelming in any way. Not bitter at all. Taste is very balanced and pleasant. Fantastic overall. I wish I could get this in my state.

Bottled, BB 11/5/07. Poured clear medium golden with a head that receded to nothingness after a very short while. The aroma picked up sweet, almost powdery blueberries over a rather generic sweet wheaty base.. not much to say about it. The flavor was just as expected.. de-edged wheat that was almost smooth, paired with sweet artificial blueberries.. really not bad, but no streaks of greatness. Sweet, drier, and very refreshing on the palate.. not bad.

Courtesy of Quake1028. Pours clear gold with thin bright white head. The aroma has big blueberry notes along with grainy wheat cereal and some faint soap. The taste starts fruity with blueberries but then becomes more like sugary berry extract syrup. There is also a mild berry tartness that moves toward a grainy wheat note. It becomes a little too sweet in the end. Might have a better reception on a hot summer day.

12oz bottle. Pop the top and a huge blueberry aroma comes out instantly. Golden body with a small, diminishing white head. Leaves some foam but no lacing. Aroma of blueberry flesh, blueberry pie filling, cereal grains and sweet malts. Fore is sweet grains, hints of blueberry, wheat and some other assorted sweet notes. Light bodied, sticky palate. Finish is sweet and medium length, some blueberry extract showing.

12oz bottle. Best by 11/13/07. Pours extremely light, pale yellow with a tiny white head that almost immediately diminishes into nothing. Looks like a pilsner. Aroma of strong, fresh sweet blueberry, blueberry pie. The aroma on this actually surprised me, for a fruit beer this is very well done in terms of smell. Smells like a nice juicy blueberry pie. I am not a fan of fruit beers by any means but this smell is hitting the spot. Taste is less spectacular. Fairly normal fruit beer flavor, light, watery with a faint aftertaste of berries. No bitterness. Thin mouthfeel. Not offensive in any way. Good aroma but nothing else stands out about this.
