Commercial Description:
Sweetwater Blue is a unique lighter style ale enhanced with a hint of fresh blueberry. When you drink this beer take a good whiff first and you’ll smell the blueberry influence, but on the taste it’s extremely subtle and the finish is extra clean. Ain’t no fruit beer, but it is our breakfast beer, usually folks that are looking to quench their thirst or for those that are new to the “good beer” lifestyle; this is their choice. This brew and the ESB were the original two to go through the tanks at SweetWater in February 1997.

Medals: Bronze medal winner at the 1998 World Beer Cup, Fruit Beer category; Always the funky favorite at any outdoor beer festival

Malt: 2 Row, Wheat

Hops: Centenial

Much like Pete Wickeds summer brew which i didnt enjoy very much. Blueberries and/or raspberries dont really do too much for me in a beer.

Hazy blond color, film of white head & light lacing. Smells like my hefeweizen instant blueberry pancakes. The taste is sharp with carbonation, some blueberry & baking soda. Finishes sweet, tart with blueberry extract. Eh! P.D. beer for sure.

Cloudy gold with a thin head that leaves quickly. No lacing really. It smells exacly like instant blueberry pancakes. The flavor is mostly blueberries but there is some hops. Not much else. Malty palate and a berry finish.

Pours light gold with a tiny thin white head. Some very thin lacing. Heavy blueberry aroma with a malt nose. Crisp blueberry flavor with a malt aftertaste. Crisp refreshing palate, light.

Head is initially small, fizzy, white, fully diminishing. Body is clear medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), with a note of blueberry and boysenberry. Flavor is lightly sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation. A freebie gotten in a trade, and, well...whaddya want for free?! Just kidding. Maybe the first blueberry beer I’ve had, not sure. Not terrible. But it’s just some blueberry flavoring dumped in a flimsy American wheat beer, really. It ain’t no New Glarus fruit beer, dat’s fo’ sho’.

yellow colored pour with a thin white head. smells like blueberries, and as much as i was going to deny it, i was actually impressed with this beer. it was refreshing and sweet at the same time. not something i would want to drink alot of, but it sure did the trick. sampled at brewgrass 04

Strange plastic aroma. Jay said it was like a Rainbow Bright Doll. How does he know this??? I had a younger sister and it reminded me of her Little Pony Toys, or even Strawberry Shortcake. Some wierd plasticy nose. The body was thin and it had a drying finish, but that taste was so strange and fake.

Blueberry? Tasted like sucking on a Rainbow Bright platic doll. Only the slightest hints of blueberry mixed with a terrible rotten bitterness.
