Commercial Description:
Sweetwater Blue is a unique lighter style ale enhanced with a hint of fresh blueberry. When you drink this beer take a good whiff first and you’ll smell the blueberry influence, but on the taste it’s extremely subtle and the finish is extra clean. Ain’t no fruit beer, but it is our breakfast beer, usually folks that are looking to quench their thirst or for those that are new to the “good beer” lifestyle; this is their choice. This brew and the ESB were the original two to go through the tanks at SweetWater in February 1997.

Medals: Bronze medal winner at the 1998 World Beer Cup, Fruit Beer category; Always the funky favorite at any outdoor beer festival

Malt: 2 Row, Wheat

Hops: Centenial

Bottle as shown. Pours a clear golden with a small white head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is a very sweet fruit with blueberry and light hop. Decent lacing along the glass. The taste is similar to the aroma with a strong blueberry and a tart finish. A good fruit beer if you like blueberries with it very present with this brew.

Taste 3/9 bottle. Looks: Clear golden body with a small ring of bubbles around the glass. Aroma: Blueberry muffins. Taste: Like you are eating a blueberry muffin and drinking a kolsch at the same time. If you want blueberries, it is great. If you don’t, bypass this beer. It is well executed for what it is.

12 ounce bottle. Pours an orange tinted light amber with a thin cola-like head. Bready blueberry notes in the aroma. Taste is blueberries, bread and spice. Medium bodied.

Ignore Sweetwater’s description, because this is definitely a fruit beer. For a fruit beer, it’s alright. It’s very blueberry-ey (even in aroma, which worried me), but not in that sickeningly fake kind of way. Still, I don’t want more than one of these. I would much rather have the Seadog Bluepaw.

Bottle: Pours a slightly hazy golden with a fading white head. Mild blueberry notes in the aroma, which seems natural- some light pale malt notes, a touch of crackery notes under the blueberry. Light fluffy feel. Mild flavor overall with a soft blueberry note and pale malt that mingle well. There’s a touch of dry/crackery pale malt which give way to a kiss of gentle hops. Nothing really wrong with it, it’s just very underwhelming.

From a 12oz bottle this beer poured a crisp golden color with a thick white head. Smell was blueberry and wheat. Taste was wheat, some malt, little hops and blueberry - but not overwhelming. Very thin mouthfeel with light carbonation. Good in small amounts and on a warm day when looking for something light and refreshing to drink. The beer delivers what you expect from a fruit beer - if you are looking for or expecting something else then look at their IPA or other offerings.

For a fruit beer (which I usually enjoy as a novelty) it was quite pleasant. Not the best, but definitely above average. The aroma is amazing, if only the taste could match...If you like fruity beers you will love it, if you don’t you will hate it. A good dessert/after dinner beer. Very light and crisp with a small whitish head with little lacing.

ohh my god.got this cause i want to get to 1000. it was piss brown but i laughed in shock at the blueberries (6) garnish. they sit at the bottom taking turns floating up for a bit. smells like blueberry milkshake. or extract. tastes like pretty bad pale lager flavor with blueberry extract over it. awful. is this an ale? the blueberries are also annoying the hell out of me.
