Commercial Description:
This double fermented belgian style ale derives its name from its secondary fermentation. The 1st fermentation uses generous amounts of imported english malts. (Marris Otter Pale Malt, Mutons Dark Crystal, Wheat, Munich, and Chocolate Malt.) The collective Malt profile contributes to a dark amber color, an obviously full body, and a smooth malty aroma. A subtle hope character comes from using just enough Czech Saaz and German Hallertau to bring the beer into balance. The distinctive sweet flavor and fruity aroma are developed thru both primary and secondary fermentation using a traditional belgian abbey yeast strain. After primary fermentation (about 2 weeks) we add a solution of Rock Candi to the fermentation vessel. This additional sugar instigates a secondary fermentation. This increase the alcohol content to 8.6% and further produces more of the fruity aroma derived from the yeast. This ale is not filtered and is moderately carbonated. Best served between 42 and 48 degrees.

On tap at Taco Mac. Too bad they serve this in such a small glass. Wonderful dark color with a short lived head. Aroma and flavor combine to tantilize (and satisfy) your senses. Finish is short, bitter and warm.

This Abby Double poured a medium brown color from a growler. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty and sweet, caramel and toffee. A full to medium bodied double. Malts are fruity, caramel and sweet. Touch of brown sugar and molasses. Hops are earthy and slightly floral. Smoothly sweet and fruity, extremely drinkable. Nice session beer, one could sip this one all evening. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Draft @ Taco Mac (Sandy Springs). Medium copper-brown with lots of red highlights and a small off-white creamy head. I really had a problem coaxing an aroma out of this...I really don’t think there was anything terribly off with my nose or the environment, it’s just terribly light. What I did get (in small quantities) were plums, red grapes, cinnamon, leather (yeast), cracked pepper (the Saaz, I’m guessing) and something sort of indescribable which simply reminds me of a lot of Petite Sirahs that I’ve had. The flavor didn’t really expose anything else new to me. Fairly sweet throughout with a little bit of spiciness in the finish. The mouthfeel is divine, though. Rich, not overly thick, wonderfully creamy. Carbonation is completely non-interruptive to the texture. At least that part was masterful.

Sampled from a growler at Noogfest as well. The aroma and flavor really opened up this time. There wasn’t really anything new, just more of what I detected before. Anyway, this was a better tasting environment some I’m taking it up from a 3.4 (6/4/6/5/13) to its current score.

Thanks to kp? for suppling Noogfest with a growler of this elusive brew. Clear medium brown body that throws up a good white head. I detect some smoky malt in the aroma. The flavor is sweet malt tempered with just a touch of hops to balance. Smooth and easy drinking with good body.

Deep red in color. Light tan head. Maltly for sure. A little chocolat and dark plums or prunes.

Draft @ Taco Mac Decatur: Deep ruby color with a small creamy creamed color head. Very sweet and fruity aroma. Mostly of cranberry and grapes. Like the can shaped jellied cranberry sauce. It also reminded me of fruit juice. The flavor starts out fairly sweet but dries out quickly. It starts with grapes and fruits. It has a big resemblance of Manischewitz wine. Chocolate came through next with prunes at the end. Light bitter finish and light warming sensation. Medium bodied. 05/17/06:Had again tonight at the brewery tour. Pretty much same as before but it seemed dryer at the front and a little less fruity. Score stays the same.

A dark amber appearance with a spicy caramel like aroma. A lot of nutmeg, cherries, chocolate and spices showing in the flavor. Not a bad dubble. And I cant think of a clever boobs joke right now either, damnit.
