Earthy, toasted malt, and citrus aroma. Taste began sweet, with some bubblegum. Finished lightly tart citrus, some grapefruit too. jcc83 (137), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 22, 2004 Poured a beautiful coppery amber with a nice white head, only moderate carbonation. Wonderful malty, yeasty aroma precluded a sweet, bready, malty flavor with only a subtle hop bitterness in the finish. A little light on the hops for my tastes, epecially for a style with the word "bitter" in the name. The malt flavors are great, but I feel that the overall flavor is too far biased in that direction. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 9, 2004 Very attractive dark copper colored beer with a nicely retained off white head. Aroma is malty toast with a light hop presence and a bit of dust. Flavor picks up impressively with a vey nice malt depth and a subdueded hop bitterness that plays of of the malty breadiness. I am very impressed with this beer. Gachupines (292), USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 27, 2004 Amber hue, strong carbonation. Fairly strong bitterness, not as much of a malt presence. Finishes dry, overall easy to drink. mooseklaus (3), Georgia, USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 9, 2004 Nice amber color with thin, quickly disappearing head. Aroma of floral and citrus. Flavor has a very hoppy, peppery taste with dry finish. Overall a nice bitter. Aubrey (2777), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Apr 22, 2004 Clear and medium amber with a lasting head (smooth bumps and valleys). Sweet, doughy nose. Mouthfeel was on the light side; a little watery at times. Creamy up front, thinned out toward the finish. Malt flavors were nice, but they had a weak presence. Hops were grassy, a little citrusy, and somewhat peppery. Decent bitterness, relative to everything else. Overall, I yearned for a larger malt presence, but it was well-made and tasty. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 20, 2004 Copper color with a small head. Nice malty aroma that is backed up by a nicely balanced malt/hop palate. The dry finish is perfect for this beer. Nice Bitter. rajendra82 (704), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 19, 2004 Nice and clear orange-amber color with highly effervescent head that disappears faster than Harry Houdini from a box. Slightly off-putting grassy aroma. Tastes are attempted to be balanced between hops and malt, but lean a bit towards hops. The body is also a tad bit thin, as the beer is too well attenuated. This leaves the beer insufficient body and complexity for the style. Not bad, mind you. Just disappointing from the lofty standards set by the other beers from Sweetwater.
