Shockingly sparkling and candylike effervescence; unlike any bitter I've ever had; the actual bitterness is mild. Quite nice but it did lose a bit of its charm as it warmed up. Decent; I'd drink more of this if I could get it locally. Andrew196 (1091), Katy, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 28, 2003 Reddish amber in color....small head. Perfume, hops, and berries in the aroma....very nice. Very unique....didnt really taste like a bitter to me, but it was very refreshing and inviting. Flavor was sweet on the edges with a bitter hop finish....nice! | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 24, 2003 Auburn color with a decent head. Flavor is a little unbalanced - hops, malt, and fruit. Slightly bitter as it should be. Not the best bitter I've had but thus far I've not run across a really good American interpretation of an English bitter. Pretty good overall. wunderbier (1267), Tampere, Finland
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 5, 2003 12 oz bottle, goblet. No head to speak of. Rich coper color is clear with no particles. Caramel / toasted light bread malts. Sprucey hops. Doughy yeast. Light iced tea aroma. Lightly acidic, lightly sweet to start. Lightly acidic, moderately bitter to finish. Light-medium body is watery with lively carbonation. The bottom line is: while there's nothing extra special here, this makes a decent session brew for Atlantians. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 20, 2003 This is a really smooth brew. Deep amber with small but lingering head and goosd retention. Sweet malty aroma with a slight citrusy hop presence. Medium bodied and very smooth on the palate. Flavors are well balanced and complex with different malt grains coming through even more than the hops. Overall a decent ESB. matta (1139), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 2, 2003 Updated: Sep 27, 2003Sweet Water ESB, as it is, should be rated a bit over par. I have had better ESB’s, but this beer fit my expected criteria. This is another beer that I think taste better when it is warmed to about 70 degrees. The floral bouquet becomes more pronounced; also, the sweet & bitter balance in flavor, between the hopps & malt are complementary. Good stuff. Gunshy (479), Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 22, 2003 This beer poured a orange amber color and formed a white head that left trace lace as it subsided. An aroma of hops, caramel and citrus was present. A flavor of malt, hops, caramel and citrus. A bit sweet in the finish and while not a bad beer, not representative of a good ESB style.

Delicious hop flavour. Dry but does not dry the mouth. Much better than many exported English versions. The hops are the the highlight but I do not see the malt complexity.
