| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 3, 2003 Nice jet black color, medium sized brown head that lasted for a good long time.Malty sweet aroma with just a mild hint of hops, raisins and maybe plum with a slightly wine like character as well in the aroma.malty sweet taste at first then it changes to chocolate and hops with a mild coffee coming on later in the tasting.A bit overly carbonated for my taste but still decent. The alcohol does make a brief appearance in the taste but fades quickly back to chocolate and malt. The after taste is malty and fruity with a light amount of hops with a malty sweet hop finish. The carbonation seems to get in the way slightly but it doesn't seem to change the flavor at all.Not a bad brew but could use just a slight decline in carbonation to make it much better. Thanks to Brewbandit for this brew. argo0 (6939), Washington DC, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 26, 2003 Nice roasty, malty aroma. Seems to be a bottle conditioned beer although I can find no mention of it on the label. Dark brown color with mahogony highlights when held up to a light. Medium carbonation with a big tan head that dissapates rather quickly. Lighter mouthfeel than I would have expected. Good malty start, very fruity middle. Dry finish, with a slightly off, metallic tinge. A bit fruitier than I would like and not quite roasty enough. Still a fairly decent beer. Suttree (2734), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 23, 2003 The beer when poured in the glass looked opaque black with a rough brown head that dissipated to a thin line of bubbles. The beer lacked a strong hop aroma but had noticeable bite of hop bitterness. Great roasted coffee taste with a drying palatte feel that got stronger and deeper with time. The overall experience was excellent. The body was a bit lighter than I expected, but was not weak by any stretch of the imagination. An exceptionally drinkable brew, that is typically stelar work of this brewery. Ernest (4491), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 10, 2003 Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark
brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate, caramel, toasted
bread), lightly hoppy (flowers), with notes of dust and vanilla, hint of
toffee. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body,
watery texture, lively carbonation. Chalky/dusty nose at first provoked
a cough or two from the initial sniffs, but as that diminished, the
attractive malt profile took over. Soft hops work well in the
background. Very good flavor balance. Not the cleanest or most
interesting implementation perhaps, but still quite enjoyable.
