12oz bottle, from a trade a while back. Pours a dark, cherry cola color; light tan head with lacing coating the interior of the glass. Light, roasted malts and dried fruits in the aroma. Medium mouthfeel: pleasant milk chocolate and roasted malts, with a hint of marshmallow; an unremarkable porter. Medium, bitter chocolate finish.

Appearance: Pours dark brown with a thin, pitiable off-white head. Smell: Sweet chocolate malts are present, although rather faint on the nose, as is a little hop scent. Taste: Essentially chocolate malts with a bit of roastiness to it. Not too much else. Dash of molasses, perhaps some walnuts. Yeah, not much else. Finishes metallic with a light bitterness. Come on, hops. Either you’re on the team or you’re not. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Drinkability: Ok. The Exodus Porter can get me to drink it, it just can’t get me... to care.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Jimbowood. Nice, rich dark brown/amber color. Faint aroma of coffee and chocolate. Flavor is mild, reserved, yet drinkable. Not as rich and full bodied as I typically like Porters. This is by no means a bad beer, but it certainly isn’t great. If a porter could be a session beer, this would be it.

Bottle, from trade with goldtwins. Good aroma. Sweet. cocoa, with a bitter streak, Was getting a little cardboard scent. hint of scotch. and I though a little dirty earthy scent. Bittersweet. Roasty caramel/toffee. Still a cardboard thing in flavor. Cocolate/cocoa. Medium body, creamy smooth mouthfeel, Dry finish. Nice easy to drink beer. Didn’t stand out, but was solid. Nice to have around as a every day beer.

Thanks to Goldtwins for the bott.e Very dark, small amount of ruby light shining through. Nose is toffee & dark caramel, porty fruits, dusty milky coffee/cocoa. Flavor is cocoa, toffee, malt, some dark fruits. Bittersweet finish.

1/04/2007: I had traded decaturstevo to get a bottle of this beer, but I also received one as a surprise bonus bottle from jimbowood. Thanks guys! -- Sweetwater Exodus Porter is a dark chocolate brown color with a thin tan crown. It has a sweet, roasted malt and choclate aroma and weak chocolate, coffee, and dark caramel flavor. A rich, semi-sweet chocolate flavor in the finish is accompanied by a nice balancing bitterness and a lingering taste of dark chocolate. The beer is light to medium bodied and feels a little thin on the palate at times. However, the carbonation isn’t overdone which is good. Overall, this is a decent porter, but not unique or memorable enough for me. I guess I was hoping for a bit more in the aroma, flavor, and body.

10/22/2008: Sweetwater Exodus Porter has a watery, roasted malt aroma that has a hint of chocolate. It pours a dark brown, clear color and has an average level of carbonation with khaki head. The flavor has molasses, cola, and seems slightly burnt to me. It has a medium-light to medium body and seems quite thin for a porter. Exodus is decent, but not great. It doesn’t really meet my expectations.

Bottle from Goldtwins. Thanks Larry! Pours a deep copper brown with little to no head. Aroma of faint chocolate malt. Flavor a bit more pronounced with a pleasent hop bitterness. Nice balance. A everyday, easy drinking porter. Pairs very nicely with this beef stew im chowing down.

On draught at multiple locations in ATL, including brewery and in bottle (before temporary discontinued). Prior to hiatus, it poured a deeper, darker, and more opaque brown with a creamy moderate crown and extremely good retention and lacing. New batches seem clearer but still retain their good crown retention properties. Aroma is toasty and sweet, with strong chocolate and coffee notes, and a notice of molasses and toffee, maybe even caramel. Sweetness in flavour is balanced well with a nice but not overly burnt malt taste, and subtle hop character. Very satisfying medium body with mild carbonation and a crisp finish, not something I usually encounter on porters. New batches don’t taste, overall, as good as what it used to be. I can see why it won all those awards back in the day. This is IMHO the best beer Sweetwater used to make and I always look forward to enjoying a few pints when they bring it back to their brewery tastings.
