~Dark brown with hints of an assortment of spices in aroma. Taste is as malty as it is full of spice. Cinnamon & alcohol give a slight warming zing to this very nice winter ale. I emptied the big bottle very fast, and wish, now, I had bought another to take my time with. But thats how it goes. Overall a great beer! ( $11) footbalm (1219), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 18, 2006 bottle from Captaincougar. Some holiday spice coming from this anda bit of dark fruit to boot. Kinda malty and not a bad brew to kick back with on a cold Minnesota evening. brentfeesh (1039), Gadsden, Alabama, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 6, 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours a molasses color with minimal head. Hazy with lots of little carbonation. Big malty aroma with a spicy sweetness, with wood notes and a lightly hoppy bitterness. Some licorice and/or molasses hints. The flavor is fairly straight forward with malt, molasses and spice (that comes across as ginger bread). Body is medium and lightly creamy. A fair holiday brew. 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 13, 2006 The beer pours a very dark brown with hints of ruby shining through. The head pours thick and beige, with very fine bubbles - the head dissipates quickly but laces the glass heavily. The aroma is subtle - malts, spice (mace), and some fruit (raisins). The beer begins very full-bodied, sweet, and malty. Spice (some cinnamon) and hops arrive in the middle of the beer along with a little chocolate. Some dried fruit, hops, and some more chocolate show up in the end. The beer finishes sweet and full-bodied, somewhat dry. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 10, 2006 This wax coated flippy top huge 40 oz bottled brew from Captain Cougar at the Dark Lord Release Party was marked #4307 of 7299. It poured a very large sized head of foamy light brown colored bubbles that was mostly diminishing and left behind a semi-opaque typically carbonated dark brown colored body and a good lacing. The mild aroma was brown malt with a slight soapiness. The smooth semi-flat mouth feel was mildly tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of brown malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.
