Appearance is almost black with a light head. Aroma is dark fruit and chocolate. Flavor is chocolate, caramel, light smoke, nutmeg and some raisin. A very subtle but tasty beer.

A nice winter brew that pours brown/red from the bottle with a off-white head. The fruity malts mix well with a nice blend of spices, nice cinnamon flavor in the finish. Fairly smooth with a mild dry finish, hides the alcohol fairly well.

Thanks to CaptainCougar for the bottle. Dark brown color with twinges of redness around the edges. Aroma is full of fresh citrus and sweet caramel. Taste is lively & hoppy. Chocolate flavor coats the tongue before being overtaken by a bitter hoppiness. The mouthfeel is really lively, almost attacking the back of the tongue. Other flavors picked up on are grape and even more chocolate as the temp rises a bit. A really nice beer indeed.

Malty and a hint of spice w/ dark fermented fruit and a slight alcohol sweetness on the nose. The pour was dark brown w/ orange highlights and almost no head and slight lacing. The flavor was big in malt w/ hints of spice, dark fermented fruit and citrus. The mouthfeel was creamy w/ a medium body.

2004: Poured deep ruby amber brown with a medium tan head...smell is sweet with smoke, wood, caramel, chocolate...taste is very herbal...cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate, general sweetness...like a flat OSA...alcohol noticable in the finish...

Pours medium brown / red with a small tan head. Lots of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. in aroma and flavor. Fairly tasty, but I don’t think I could drink much of this in one sitting.

2004 vintage. Deep cranberry juice-colored body with some suspended sediment, thin cream head. Aroma of toast, chocolate, red wine and a distinct Concord grape character. Nice dry toasty body with grapeskin highlights, a bit woody and earthy. A touch vinous. Alcohol barely perceptible. Light on the spice for the style, this fits nicely with other winter ales that trend more towards the English Strong Ale style. Thanks Larry (goldtwins) for the bottle!
