Lots of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. in aroma and flavor. Fairly tasty, but I don’t think I could drink much of this in one sitting. Silphium (2141), Haslett, Michigan, USA

Deep cranberry juice-colored body with some suspended sediment, thin cream head. Aroma of toast, chocolate, red wine and a distinct Concord grape character. Nice dry toasty body with grapeskin highlights, a bit woody and earthy. A touch vinous. Alcohol barely perceptible. Light on the spice for the style, this fits nicely with other winter ales that trend more towards the English Strong Ale style. Thanks Larry (goldtwins) for the bottle! givmebeer (8), plano, Texas, USA does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 22, 2005 POURS DARK , HAS A SWEET MALT AROMA, TASTE OF NUTTY CARAMEL AND COFFEE, JUST THE FLAVOR TO TO WARM YOUR BODY UP IN THE WINTER MONTHS, ENOYED THE 6 -PACKS AND THE LITER #3823

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 17, 2005 Pours with a dark brown body with amber highlights topped by a medium thick head with some lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet and malty with a slight bitterness and slight alcohol esters. Slightly sweet and malty with a slight hoppy bitterness, a little caramel, and a touch of roastiness. Medium to full bodied and slightly dry. Ernest (4500), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 10, 2005 2004 bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly
diminishing. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (nuts,
caramel, roasted grain), with a note of nutmeg. Flavor is moderately
sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly
acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively
carbonation. This one has a few nice aspects (perhaps the best being its
phenomenally hidden 8.6% alcohol, if that is correct), but the net
impression is a watery and uninteresting spiced porter. IndianaRed (1560), Boise, Idaho, USA

Lacing is light and disipates quickly. Aromas are a nice sweet, woody, malty combination. The high ABV is detectable as well. Flavors are subtle and difficult for me to pick out. Light on the hops, some chocolate and roasted malts. Easy and fairly tasty. Soft finish with not much carbonation. wpp83 (64), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 24, 2004 Poured a dark brown that verged on black. A nice light tan head, very small, but lasting through the brew. A roasted maltiness in the nose with a slight hoppy note that was almost not noticable, and a storng spiciness that was very complex. The flavor was fairly sweet, with notes of coffee and cinnamon along with a mildly hoppy botterness around the finish. It was watery at the start of the mouthfeel but ended pretty dry. I liked this one and will in the future attempt a greater depth of sampling. Drew (2410), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 20, 2004 Very dark brown, nearly black, short head, some lacing. Sweetened coffee with cream, a dash of cinnamon and a swirl of chocolate - this is like a winter coffee served chilled. Very tasty! thanks, Goldtwins!
