2007 1L waxed swingtop shared by cdumler. Thanks! Pours a clear and very dark ruby color with a medium off-white head. Decent head retention and low lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, nuts, sawdust and citrus. Taste is heavy on the sunflower seeds, with notes of dark fruits, caramel, honey, spice and a nice warming alcohol. Muddled hops in the finish. Full bodied.

Poured a ruby red color with a flat off white head. Aroma was hints of some spices, lots of malts, nothing too entising. Flavor was much the same, sweet malty beer with a little bit of fruity sweetness and a bit nutty as well. This beer was a bit too thin imho but at the same time it was acceptable because it hid the alcohol amazingly.

2006 bottle. Poured deep ruddy brown with a whole helluva lot of sediment floating around. The aroma was rather bizarre.. molasses and drier chocolate notes supporting nutmeg, cinnamon, and earthy notes.. well-toasted and warmer, especially as it approached room temp.. there was a lot going on, but I wasn’t entirely taken by it. The flavor opened with slightly sour caramel and chocolates maltage with the spice array really coming through on the latter half of the drink.. peppery notes surrounded the tongue, and nutmeg (must be the mace) rode out the dry, warm finish.. coffee emerged on the back as well, with a light-moderate roast to it.. molasses joined in at the end. Medium-plus bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. sticky and warm on the middle with lots of spices around.. didn’t flow too well. I wanted to like this more, but it was kind of a mess.

Big and malty, only lightly hopped. I did not notice the characteristic fest nuttiness. Sweet finish.

Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville NC. More trouble get into this beast then it was worth. Thin mouth-feel. Overly spicy beer and a twist of hops.

Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville - thanks to ucusty for sharing! 2007 bottle, a big impressive one. Facto worked the knife on the wax forever before getting this one open. Strange aroma, a mix of weird vegetal qualities and some winter spice. Deep brown pour, quite murky, fairly still. It’s moderately hopped, but it tapers off quickly and leaves a somewhat watery impression.

Big ass bottle. Pours a clean auburn color. Frothy white head, and tons of filmy lacing. Aroma is real spicy. Some cinnamon, mostly. Fairly heavy on the malts. Flavors of nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice. Fairly nutty. Bread, and just malty in general. Light-bodied, very refreshing, clean and bright. The alcohol is nowhere to be found, very well-disguised here.

Large format ’05 bottle brought by Tjthresh to the 7/07 tasting. Reddish copper color with a light layer of carbonation. Aroma is earthy spice, raisins & plums. Taste is malty with dark caramel, earthiness, and spice.
