Medal: Gold medal winner at the 2001 Great American Beer Festival – English Style Brown Ales.

Malt: 2 Row, Black, Victory, 30-37 Carastan, 70-80 Crystal, Chocolate

Hops: Columbus, Willamette

Acceptable. Fairly clean, but lousy hop selection for overall profile -it clashes. Not bad with a burger, though...

Appearance: Pours out a dark brown-amber color with a tiny off-white head that recedes rather quickly. Smell: Not much here. The aroma has a very one-track mind for toasted nuts. Taste: A very mild, unoffending flavor of sweet malts with the merest hint of nuts. Flavors comes across as directionless and wishy-washy. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body, but everything comes up a bit watery. Drinkability: I really didn’t want to admit it to myself, but I had no choice at that point. I threw down my pint glass, looked up at the sky, and yelled with every last bit of energy I had left: "This is the white bread of brown ales!"

This is a nutty, honey malt-tasting ale. It tastes robust and a bit heavy, so be sure that’s what you’re going for when you get it. It’s a brown ale, of course, and that’s not my favourite style. It’s also not really one of the better ones of the style I’ve had. Decent, but lackluster.

12 ounce bottle from pintocb. Pour light brown to form a chestnut brown beer with zero head. I swirled tha hell out of this pint, and I could not manage to conjure up any head. The aroma is ripe with pungant hops and crystal and toasted malts. Sort of a chared flavor. Very light carbonation. Medium-light body. I kind of like it.

Bottle. Pours deep brown. Has a slight nutty flavor that finishes rather smooth. I am new to the brown ale, and I think that I just might have to come back for more.

The body’s a light chestnut and it’s fizzy white head lingered none too long. Solid malty aroma accompanied by chocolate and brown sugar. Seemed a bit thin but had a good, balancing hop spiciness to balance it out. Not bad.

I think this came from ross or TBC2. Pours brown with a thin off white head. Smells of tea, some fruit, nutty malt and yeasty dough. Tastes mildly bitter with a nicy spicy character. Some maltiness is present as the beer warms. Mouthfeel is full with a spicy finish. Nice.

Nice color and aroma. Starts off well with a malty palate, but dryer than, for instance, Newcastle. Perhaps a bit too effervescent. Finishes with a nice hoppy bite, and, when I’m in the ATL, it’s something I enjoy quite a bit.
