Malt: 2 Row, Black, Victory, 30-37 Carastan, 70-80 Crystal, Chocolate

Hops: Columbus, Willamette

A decent Brown Ale, certainly one of the better I’ve had. I know this isn’t a popular style these days. It sure isn’t with me, but it’s got enough bite in it to warrant another sampling. Just a wisp of a head. Mild nut aroma as the style warrants, but still less watery than others which is respectable. No metallic or astringent taste so that’s a plus. Fairly smooth with light carbonation hitting the palate and a finish which doesn’t overstay its welcome. Still not throughly enjoyable, especially when I’m praising a beer for not being overly offensive.

12 oz bottle from Frugal MacDoogal’s in Nashville. Poured a clear dark amber color with about one finger of off white head. No lacing. Aroma is of caramel, nuts and some malt. Flavor is malty with a little butterscotch initially, but fades to a faint nutty taste. Mouthfeel is slightly lighter than I had hoped with medium carbonation. A good beer that is so very close to being very good.

Bottle. Pours with a medium brown color and a smallish head. Aromas of caramel, malts and some dark fruit. Falvors of caramel, butterscotch, some hops in the backbone and some chocolate. A very satisfying brown, perhaps it could have a more robust body.

Deep brown color......fluffly head, though a little thin. Slightly sweet, almost nutty, aroma. Malt flavor in the front, with just a hint of sweetness......unusually crisp mouthfeel for a brown. Back has a slightly bitter hop bite......mild malt finish. A very basic brown ale, with nothing to really separate itself from others.

Brown ale isn’t the most exciting style of beer I can think of, and this beer was not the most exciting brown ale I’ve ever had. So, I didn’t think anything really wrong with it; it was just a little ordinary. Still, I drank on a nice day when a number of things had gone well for me, so I can’t say too much bad about it (so much of reviewing is context and situation). It poured a translucent brown that was somehow still brilliantly colored. There was very little visible head. Aroma was some caramel and brown sugar. Flavor was more caramel, a slightly sweet maltiness, and a touch of metal. Mouthfeel was typical. Not bad. I would weakly recommend this beer. I got this bottle from the Microbrew of the Month club folks.

beer of the month club is a rip off, I always get mediocre beers like this, never fails you always get one brown and and one pale ale (dime a dozen beers) any way its a brown ale with a small hint of chocolate in its body, nothing too special.

Nice looking dark amber with little head. Flavor of breads and burnt toast. Not a lot of aroma. Nice bitter finish.

Beer of the Month Selection: Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. Pour produced a hazy light copper-brown body with no head and light carbonation. Aroma is light hops and yeast. Mild hop character with some tartness, and light bitter nut flavor. Light bodied and lightly carbonated, this is a very drinkable beer, though a little lighter bodied than a typical brown ale.
